  2. 2. ALL ABOUT MINDORO Formerly called Mait Named Mina de Oro (Mine of Gold) by the Spaniards 7th largest island in the country
  3. 3. ETHNOLINGUISTIC GROUPS Mangyan - Is the collective term of uncertain origin for the different ethno linguistic groups inhabiting the highlands of Mindoro and its foothills.
  4. 4. MANGYAN GROUPS Iraya or Pula Alangan or Tadianan Tadyawan or Balaban
  5. 5. -are the mangyan indigenous groups inhabiting the northern part of the highlands.
  6. 6. MANGYAN GROUPS Hanunuo Buhid Tau-buhid or Bangon or Batangan
  7. 7. -are the mangyan indigenous groups inhabiting the southern part of the highlands.
  8. 8. Ratagnon or Latagnon or Datagnon Is the 7th indigenous group in Mindoro
  9. 9. AMBAHAN  Is a traditional poetic expression of the Southern Mangyans of Mindoro with a meter of 7 syllable lines.  It came from the word amba meaning “invocation to the spirit.”  Most often performed as a chant without a determined tonality or instrumental accompaniment
  10. 10. AMBAHAN They wrote and carved their chants in bamboo laths using any pointed and sharp objects. Themes are: Birth, Childhood, Adolescence, Courtship, Work, Illness, Wedding, Home, Problems, Adulthood and Death
  11. 11. AMBAHAN Luka – is a portion of the bamboo pole where then Mangyans carve or engrave their ambahans
  12. 12. MANGYAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS Chordophones- stringed instruments played either by plucking, strumming or bowing
  13. 13. MANGYAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS Gitara- a home made guitar
  14. 14. MANGYAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS Gitgit- is a three stringed indigenous violin with human hair for strings
  15. 15. MANGYAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS Kudyapi- is a two stringed lute
  16. 16. MANGYAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS Kudlung- is a parallel-stringed bamboo zither
