LIFEBorn into a cultured Bogotá family,Silva had a carefree life. When hewas hardly ten, he wrote his firstpoems. In 1882 he traveled toEngland, Switzerland, and France,and there, he met with otherromantic writers.
His trip LIFE into Europe influenced hisstyle. The death of his father and thefinancial struggles of his family , Silvawas forced to return to Colombia.
LIFEIn 1892, his beloved sister Elviradied. In 1895, Silvas only majorwork of prose was lost in ashipwreck. Under the weight ofthese two events.
LIFEBesides, his familys enormousdebts, Silva collapsed and hecommitted suicide .
DEATHOn May 24, 1896, a house maidfound Silva dead in his bed; hehad shot himself in the nightbefore. Prior to his death, heasked his doctor to mark theexact location of his heart.The house where he lived, is
