Editor's Notes

  1. Slide 1: Slide title and general comments on font/size/colour– I recommend that you consistently use Arial font throughout presentations. Font colour should be black on white because some people cannot read coloured text therefore font colour can exclude people. The background, if possible, should remain white throughout a presentation. It is boring but simple and effective. Avoid distractions in PowerPoint. Engage the room with information and a good narrative. Image change: Clouds are silent thoughts so these are changed to speech callouts. I presume ‘dialogue’ is spoken not silent, hence the variation in image type. Name: Include your title underneath your name on the first slide. It is standard practice to introduce yourself to the audience on a slide. General comments on the use of logos in presentations: They are important and necessary but should never detract from your message or visual engagement with the audience. Therefore, keep them small, at the bottom centre or bottom left/right.
  2. Slide 2: I recommend that you use this slide to settle your nerves in the first few moments of the presentation and give the audience a chance to relax (drop their shoulders). This also frees up the next slide for clear and concise answers to help the audience relax even more in your company.
  3. Slide 3: Font is changed to Arial for bullet points and Ariel bold for title. I suggest that you give the full title for OSUFMC to avoid confusion. Again help every member of the audience understand and remember the message. NOTICE SLIDE CHANGES ACCORDING TO ORDER CHANGE IN THIS SLIDE. Who we are? Then - What we are? Then - What we are not? (Logical progression of information)
  4. Slide 5: Font changed, colour changed and centred on slide Note: Avoid justifying bullet points, keep left margin within box or it throws space off between words. Logos made much smaller and placed in corners. Still visible and present but not taking away from your message.
  5. Slide 6: Who are we? not Who we are I recommend changing to Who are we? as it is the question you are about to answer for everyone. Changed the secondary empty bullets to a single dash. This is a customized style so you can select the dash in the bullets window. A dash after a main bullet point is neater and less visually cluttered.
  6. Slide 7: If you can get a better quality of this image then please do. It will look terrible on a big screen because of the low resolution. Note: In PowerPoint always try to imagine a small margin around the inside of the slide and keep within that margin. Try not to extend writing or images the entire width or length of the slide because when it is projected it will overwhelm the audience. Also, here is a good technical tip: projectors with depleting lamp power can actually lose light intensity on the outside rim of screen/slide so that is another reason to keep an imaginary boarder in your mind when creating slides.
  7. Slide 7: Avoid exclamation marks in presentations. They are unprofessional and unnecessary. If you want to indicate emphasis either underline the most appropriate word or italicise it. Either will suffice.
  8. Slide 9: Reorganised
  9. Slide 10: Reorganised Colours in image strengthened
  10. Slide 11: Reorganised
  11. Slide 12: Reorganised One slide deleted (deemed unnecessary – focus on the slide that might give the audience a laugh to get the appeal factor)
  12. Slide 13: Reorganised The story so far changed to Our work so far
  13. Slide 14: Reorganised Image and quote moved to a new slide (Slide 15 for emphasis)
  14. Slide 15: New slide to set the tone of change. Dates for Johnson added, which is customary.
  15. Slide 16: Reorganised Colours in image strengthened
  16. Slide 18: Reorganised Image colour strengthened Logo placement indicated
  17. Slide 19: Unsure if you are asking a question or a rhetorical question in the title Liam It seems to be an actual question because you are asking for suggestions so then it should be followed by a ?
  18. Slide 20: Nice
  19. Slide 21: Love Dr Suess so no change on my part
