  2. 2. InternationalTropical PeatlandsCenter (ITPC) Peatlands are area of production of community livelihoods in RDC. Fishing, agriculture, picking of non-wood forest products and logging are made in peatlands landscape, by local communities and indigenous peoples. These activities have some negatives consequences on peatlands. Question: how can RDC reduce the pressure on this ecosystem? DRC’s Peatlands policy for the next 5 to 10 years will focus on conservation of peatland for nature and peoples. RDC’s peatland raod map for this period will develop activities like: mapping, multidisciplinary research in peatland areas; Implementation of impact programs reducing the pressure peatland; Drafting peatland management policy; strengthening national and local capacities on peatland management. Some blocking points for the conservation of peatlands : Better knowledge of the peatland; strengthening national capacities on peatland management; availability of a national policy dedicated to peatlands; consequent financial resources. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, we are sure that the better peatland policy must link the protection of peatlands to the enhancement of this ecosystem. The most important question for RDC is what opportunities can conservation peatlands can bring for nature and peoples.
