  3. 3. Past Research says… <ul><li>Students used to recite answers to topics they have learnt well </li></ul><ul><li>if asked to actually apply the knowledge in day to day life, they easily falter. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Big Challenge <ul><li>To Initiate Learning Program which is </li></ul><ul><ul><li>intrinsically a voluntary program </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>focusing on school accountability for its teaching practices… </li></ul></ul>
  5. 5. Smaller Challenge <ul><li>To make fundamental shifts in the way school education is delivered. </li></ul>

And the shifts were… <ul><li>1st shift: From Rote Learning to Competency building </li></ul><ul><li>2nd shift: from assessing students to assessing schools </li></ul><ul><li>3rd shift: Monitoring by external standards to involving teachers in the process itself-building responsibility and ownership!!! </li></ul><ul><li>4th shift: From Fear of attending schools to the Desire for attending classes regularly!!! </li></ul>

The Result <ul><li>In 2003, 896 schools (50% of the participating schools) chose to be evaluated and 40 won </li></ul><ul><li>In 2004, 1440 schools were evaluated, out of which 82 schools won the Learning Guarantee Program Award for 2004 </li></ul><ul><li>Over 10000 teachers personally experimented with using child friendly, non text book based oral and written assessment. </li></ul>
