Fall 2012 Child Development & Early Education ProgramLansing Community College CHDV 197-Special Topics Exploring School Readiness CRN 42619 Saturday September 8 & 15 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Health and Human Services Building- Room 102 (Main Campus) Jean Garratt, Instructor This course will:  Identify the building blocks (skills) for success in school  Identify how curriculum enhances motivation and engagement  Describe the characteristics of “ready schools”  Define “school readiness” indicators in comprehensive terms, including the child, family, school and community  Define the key components of successful transition practices  Define the role of families, culture and children’s individual needs in promoting development in all domains Note: Seminars provide 15 hours of training toward Child Day Care Licensing training requirements and apply toward LCC Child Development & Early Education Degrees) This seminar is pass/fail. In order to pass the course, ONE of the requirements is that students attend and participate in at least 80% of the scheduled class time. There is no extra credit or make up available.
