EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
India’s educational technology space was quite active during Q1 2016. 44%
of all the edtech activities in India in Q1 2016 were related to investments
in educational technology space. They were followed by collaboration
among edtech companies representing 21%, and new edtech products and
programs, accounting for 15% and 12% of all the edtech activities,
respectively.
In terms of edtech segments, 16% of the edtech activities in India for Q1
2016 happened in Adult and Continuing Education and Test Preparation.
They were followed by Online Higher Education and Mobile Apps — each
accounting for 14% of all the edtech activities.
Q1 2016 also witnessed several Indian edtech companies raising
investments. Of all the investments in Q1 2016, 25% were related to Test
Preparation, followed by 15% for Adult and Continuing Education, and
Mobile Apps. Further, B2B Edtech Products for Schools and Edtech
Marketplaces, each accounted for 10% of the total investment activities in
Q1 2016.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW EDTECH PRODUCTS AND
PLATFORMS
India’s educational technology space has witnessed several new edtech
products and programs in Q1 2016. Indian Institute of Management,
Bangalore has launched new MOOC–based online certificate program. The
‘Fundamentals of Business Management’ program helps learners attain
basic business and management skills. The program is a 6 course series,
with courses on People Management; Operations Management;
Accounting; Corporate Finance; Business Strategy; and Marketing. It will
be delivered through the edX platform.
Amazon India has launched a new category on its site for educational
material. The Exam Central category — under the books category —
provides sample question papers, past papers and articles for entrance
exams. The site also provides test info and calendar, along with test
preparation books in both English and Hindi. As per Amazon India, test
preparation books were the third most popular book category in 2015.
