EUROPE EDTECH ACTIVITIES AND TRENDS — Q1 2016 ©Indalytics Advisors l InsightsEd.com l 3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Europe’s educational technology space was quite active during Q1 2016. 42% of all the edtech activities in Europe in Q1 2016 were related to collaboration among educational technology companies. It was followed by investments in educational technology representing 21%, and expansion by existing companies representing 16% of the total edtech activities. Further, new edtech products and programs accounted for 11% of the edtech activities in Europe during Q1 2016 In terms of edtech segments, 14% of the edtech activities in Europe for Q1 2016 happened in Adult and Continuing Education, followed by 14% in Online Higher Education. Further, Automation Tools for Institutions, Content Publishers, EdTech Hardware, Educational Games, and Mobile Apps — each accounted for 7% of all the edtech activities in Q1 2016. Further, 45% of all the edtech activities in Europe in Q1 2016 happened in the UK. It was followed by Italy and Spain, each accounting for 10% of all the edtech activities. Further, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Moldova, Poland, Sweden — each accounted for 5% of all the edtech activities in Europe, in Q1 2016.

Poland and US–based Explain Everything — which provides a whiteboard app — has launched a new iOS app for collaborative whiteboard, along with a web–based content portal, Explain Everything Discover. Explain Everything’s app helps teachers, students, and other users to sketch, animate, and collaborate real–time on their ideas. The app has over 3 million users. London School of Marketing has launched mobile–based courses. The courses use an online learning platform, which students and teachers can access using their smartphones and tablets. The courses are intended for students who want to study on the move, and cannot attend physical classes. London School of Marketing is currently offering an MBA in business studies and two undergraduate courses using the mobile medium.
