Brian: Responding to Brian's needs

  1. 1. Introduc)on  and  ques)ons
  2. 2. Hearing  the  door  and  phone   If you were visiting Brian at home to advise him regarding possible ways to overcome his difficulties in hearing callers to the door or on the phone, what would you suggest? Remember to start with the simplest ideas; but be reasonable - he is not likely, for example, to significantly increase the amount of time he spends in the front of the house. Could any of this technology assist him in overcoming problems resulting from poor hearing elsewhere?
  3. 3. Remembering  to  take  pills,  etc.   What devices do you use to help you to remember to carry out necessary tasks? Can any of these be used to help Brian remember to take his pills? What specially-designed technology is available to deal with this kind of task? Can any of these devices be used to remind Brian of other tasks that he might forget?
  4. 4. Visi8ng  the  supermarket   What strategies can you think of, that may help improve Brian's stamina for activities such as his weekly shopping trips? Once Brian is at the supermarket, what technology is available to help him with reading labels, prices, etc? Could any of this technology enhance or compensate for his impaired vision in other areas of his life?
  5. 5. Loneliness  and  low  mood   How could assistive technology be used to help Brian to manage his low mood? Could there be any way technology could be used to decrease his sense of loneliness?
  6. 6. A=er  you  have  completed  your   notes  regarding  these  ques8ons,   please  compare  them  with  our   own  thoughts  (in  the  next   presenta8on).
