  • Remind the class of the story of Prophet Muhammed (saw) migration from Makkah to Madinah.Madinah was orginally called Yathrib and there were Jews, Arabs and others already living there. Some of them accepted Islam. Propeht had the difficult task of bringking together Jews, Ansar (people living in Madinah) and Muhajirun (migrants from Mecca to Medinah) so that they could live together in peace and harmony. In order to do this he laid down several principles and rules over a period of time, which laer became known as the Sahifah, which is Arabic for page or document. This document is said to be the first written constitution ever that gave rights and responsibilities to all citizens.

It is sufficient evil for a person to lookdown on his Muslim brother (and sister). The whole ofa Muslim is sacred to another Muslim: his blood, hiswealth and his honour.’ (Bukhari, Muslim)

A Story from the Sirah‘The Muslims of Makkah were being persecuted by the non- Muslimsand so to protect their lives and their faith, the Prophet instructedthem to leave and flee to Madinah, where they would find protection.They had to leave their homes and their belongings behind. Theybecame refugees in Madinah and were known as the Muhajirun.‘In Madinah, Prophet Muhammad gathered the Muslims in the houseof Anas. He explained the terrible situation that the Muslims fromMakkah, the Muhajirun, were in. He suggested to the Muslims ofMadinah that they take the Muhajirun as their brothers and sistersand look after them. They happily agreed and shared everything withthem equally. They were now known as the Ansar, the helpers.
