Handwriting warm-up activities
and exercises for the
development of fine-motor skills
Project idea
 Many kids struggle in the
area of handwriting for
various reasons.
 They don’t enjoy the
process, or they tire
quickly, fine-motor skills
are not developed as
they should be for
handwriting, and a
variety of other reasons.
 Doing some fun
handwriting warm up
activities can help them
to prepare for writing,
not only mentally but
physically.

Handwriting warm-up activities and exercises for the
development of fine-motor skills
 Fun Fingerplays are not only a fun and exciting activity
but also a beneficial exercise.
 The mobility of the child's fingers is directly related to
the mental and speech development.
 Exercising their fingers stimulates the maturation of
many areas of the brain, and in combination with
rhymes helps the development of speech, thinking,
attention, memory, visual and auditory perception,
promotes persistence in activities and improves the
quality of play and learning.
 It is particularly important in working with students
with disabilities.

practice hand and
fingers or rest from
writing during breaks.
 Our goal is to share an
experience with experts
and through good
practice, and examples
show useful models and
exercises to encourage
and develop the fine-
motor skills in students
with disabilities.
Project plan
• Who are you? How old are your students? Where you come from?
What is your native language?1.Introduce yourself shortly!
• Take a video and add it in Twinspace!
2. Perform and record the
Fingerplay rhymes in your
native language
• Exchange of ideas by using web tool Padlet.
• Show handwriting warm-up activities and exercises for the
development of the fine-motor skills that you use in your class.
3. Share ideas from your
school, classroom
•Together create a Google presentation.
•Pictures and instructions
4. Create handwriting warm-
up cards, e-book or
presentation
•Use your imagination and creativity
•We will create a joint e-book using the web 2.0 tools.
5. Create a didactic aid or a
toy for the development of
fine-motor skills

Handwriting warm-up activities and exercises  Hide and Seek Choose a set of 3-6 small objects (depending on the size of the child’s hands) – you can use marbles, pennies, or craft pompoms.  Place the objects on the table and challenge the child to pick up the objects one at a time using only one hand – picking them up with their fingertips and “hiding” them inside their palm.  Then, challenge the child to bring the objects one at a time from the palm of the hand to the fingertips, again – using only one hand!
