How to leverage covid19 for recruitment

  1. 1. The presentation covers the different strategies to source & reach out to candidates when the job market is down. Learn the tips/tricks to convert adversaries to opportunities. HOW TO SOURCE & RECRUIT CANDIDATES DURING UNCERTAINTY
  2. 2. STRATEGY 1 Find & close talent who were recently laid off due to the COVID-19 crisis
  3. 3. STEP 1: FIND COMPANIES THAT RECENTLY LET GO OF TALENT AMIDST THIS PANDEMIC Candor.co is curating a list of all companies that have laid off people recently. Find the list of companies that have recently let go of people due to the COVID- 19 crisis. https://candor.co /hiring-freezes/
  4. 4. STEP 2: SUBSCRIBE TO NEWSLETTERS THAT CURATE NEWS AROUND TALENT LAYOFF Layoff List is a free, weekly briefing where we compile insider tips and various news stories about companies that may be experiencing a layoff. By spreading the word, we can help match candidates to their next adventure. https://www.layoffs.tech/
  5. 5. STEP 3: USE LAYOFFS.FYI TRACKER TO FIND THE PEOPLE DIRECTORY We should subscribe to their blog to receive instant updates & receive news when companies layoff people. Tracking all startup layoffs — and lists of employees laid off — since COVID- 19 was declared a pandemic.
  6. 6. STEP 4: HOW TO FIND PEOPLE DIRECTORY IF IT’S NOT THERE IN THE TRACKER? Many companies are generously helping candidates who were let go find new jobs by creating a directory and posting their contact details. These are a gold mine of data for recruiters. Linkedin is a good place to start. As you can see here I search for {company- name} layoff directory and the first post is from the general manager of bird with the list of all people they let go recently.
  7. 7. STEP 5: FIND RELEVANT CANDIDATES FROM THESE PEOPLE LISTS This is the publicly available directory of people who were let go from Bird.com. Use the filter to narrow down on the candidates for the active job openings. https://docs.google. com/spreadsheets/ d/1Us4eDFB8fEKAG hPWuutvwZfcRYIdy nLlmtkDH1NGTL8/e dit?usp=sharing
  8. 8. STEP 6: FIND PUBLIC WEB PAGES THAT LIST LAID OFF TALENT Find 137 super talented people who have been laid off at BuzzFeed and are currently looking for a new job.
  9. 9. STEP 7: USE PHANTOM BUSTER TO SEND PERSONALIZED INVITATIONS IN BULK & ENRICH CANDIDATE DATA This phantom takes a list of LinkedIn profile URLs as an input. It will visit each profile on your behalf and send them an invitation to connect. ● Gather LinkedIn profile URLs into a Spreadsheet file ● Copy the shareable link of your Spreadsheet and paste it to Phantombuster ● Write and customize your invitation message ● Launch your Phantom and/or set in on repeat mode
  10. 10. MULTI-CHANNEL NURTURING SEQUENCE The outreach is a light touch but highly personalized. The subsequent messages are delivered through alternative channels to seek the candidate’s attention & catch their eye. Initial email Highly personalized Approach different segments in a personalized way based on their segment Elucidate job details In the second touch point it’s advisable to explain a little bit about the role & the job function. First follow-up(+2 day) Follow-up(+4 days) Re-iterate & sell Reiterate interest in the candidate and why the role would be a great next step in their career. Follow-up(+7 days) Check interest & seek referrals Check-in for interest and referrals. Consistency is key. Treat recruiting like a marketing team would plan a campaign. Follow-up (+14 days) Break-up email The ultimatum. The final email in which you say 'goodbye', and hope that the candidate's loss aversion kicks in. Shift to Linkedin inMail since the candidate isn’t responding to emails ConnectionRequestonLinkedIN Firsttouchpointinanconnectionrequeston LinkedIn.Itcreatesbrandawareness&helpsthem recognizeuswhenwesendoutour1stmessage.
  11. 11. STEP 8: USE LEMLIST TO RUN A PERSONALIZED DRIP CAMPAIGN Best practices used: ● Candidate name in subject ● Name is used multiple times ● Add a personalized video thumbnails in the first email touch to drive clicks ● Highly personalized Subject: [first_name], interested in working at a fast-growing enterprise where you can make a high impact? Right now, we are searching for [role] who has experience with, or knowledge of, Agile Delivery Methodology (Scrum and XP) and directs teams to explore, adapt and optimize Agile-Lean processes, principles & practices. If this sounds like something that might interest you, let me know when works for a chat either this week or next! All the best, [your name] In the second touch point it’s advisable to explain a little bit about the role & the job function. You’ll have a pain a big picture on what the candidate will be doing at your company.
  13. 13. EMAIL 3 - THIRD TOUCH (FROM CEO) Hi [candidate name], [recruiter] was telling me about you & I wanted to personally write to you to tell you about our story. I used to work at Google before starting up Ideas2IT. We started our journey as a high-end product engineering partner for Silicon Valley startups. We count Siemens, Motorola, eBay, Microsoft and Zynga among our clients. We solve some very interesting problems in the USA startup ecosystem and have created great products in the process. We’re on the cusp of unprecedented growth. If you’re still interested, here’s the job post again: [link to job posting] Let me know one way or the other! [signature] Reiterate interest in the candidate and why the role would be a great next step in their career.
  14. 14. LINKEDIN INMAIL 4: LATER TOUCH Hi [candidate name], I don’t mean to be a bother, but I would sincerely love to connect and so I want to be persistent. I tried reaching out to your over email at [candidate email]. Since we’re all busy, I figured I’d try again through Linkedin in case this is a better way to catch your eye. If, ultimately, you feel like you’re not right for this role, I’d love any referrals to folks you think might be a great fit. Hope to hear from you soon! Best, [your name] The idea is to shift to a different channel since they aren’t responding to emails. Check-in for interest and referrals. Consistency is key.
  15. 15. LINKEDIN IMAIL 5: BREAK-UP EMAIL Hi [candidate name], I think that the [role] role would be a great fit for you, but I haven’t heard back from any of the calls or emails. I just want to let you know that this will be my last email to you. I think you’d be interested in working with us because: ● We have a unique culture with a lot of individual freedom and responsibility ● You’ll have an opportunity to critically influence the outcome of a startup, not a small cog in a big machine ● You’ll get to work in an informal, collaborative, transparent, non-hierarchical, ego-free culture which is a true meritocracy If, ultimately, you feel like you’re not right for this role, I’d love any referrals to folks you think might be a great fit. Hope to hear from you soon! Best, [your name] Say 'goodbye', and hope that the candidate's loss aversion kicks in

  18. 18. STRATEGY 3 Target graduates whose job offers were recently rescinded
  19. 19. SEARCH FOR “RESCIND” ON LINKEDIN If you search for rescind on Linkedin, you’ll find people writing posts about their recent job offer being revoked.
  20. 20. USE GEM.COM TO ADD THESE CANDIDATES TO PERSONALIZED NURTURE SEQUENCES Subject: We’re active hiring for [role]s unlike [company] - can we talk? Hi [first_name], I hope this email finds you safe and well in light of recent world news. It’s a delicate time for all of us, I know—particularly when it comes to making decisions around work. I’ve just spent the last 30 minutes browsing your LinkedIn & Github profiles. 21. 21. STRATEGY 4 Reach out to human resource team of companies laying off/ones who rescinded offers & ask for intros to best candidates
