  1. 1. A187_eLaser sensorsoptoNCDTRobot positioning in seam weldingIn the bodywork shop at the BMW AG factory in Leipzig,the roof panel and side frames are welded together. Inorder to permanently seal this weld against ingress ofmoisture etc., seam welding is carried out prior to thefiller coat being applied to the vehicle body.The application of the adhesive beading is performedusing a robot positioned on either side of the productionline. Two optoNCDT 1700 laser sensors from Micro-Epsi-lon are used for precise positioning of these robots. Thesensor and nozzle for applying the adhesive beading arelocated on the end effector. The sensors measure theposition of the roof channel on the vehicle body. Usingthe calculated data, the nozzle is positioned preciselyover the weld seam, enabling error-free application of thePVC seam. Reasons for selecting the system:Due to its fast exposure regulation RTSC (Real-Time - Fast exposure regulation (RTSC)Surface Compensation) the optoNCDT sensor is used - Integrated controller with high performance classhere.
