  3. 3. History of IPv6 6bone pTLA 3FFE:8280::/28 allocated to XS4ALL-NL Bob Fink fink@es.net Tue, 02 Oct 2001 12:30:03 -0700 XS4ALL-NL in The Netherlands has been allocated pTLA 3FFE:8280::/28 having finished its 2-week review period. <http://whois.6bone.net/cgi-bin/whois?XS4ALL-NL> Note that it will take a short while for their pTLA inet6num entry to appear in the 6bone registry as they have to create it themselves. However, their registration is listed on: <http://www.6bone.net/6bone_pTLA_list.html> To create a reverse DNS registration for pTLAs, please send the prefix allocated above, and a list of at least two authoritative nameservers, to either bmanning@isi.edu or hostmaster@ep.net. Thanks, Bob Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning

  8. 8. How Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  9. 9. Technical setup • PPPoA/PPPoE • Telco network is agnostic towards NCP • BRAS: Juniper E320 • Both ATM and ethernet (VPLS) transport • Single session, dual stack • IPCP & IPv6CP • DHCPv6 PD (JUNOSe built-in) • DNS resolvers via DHCPv6 • PPP interface is link local only • All customers are assigned a static /48 Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  10. 10. Experiences so far Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  11. 11. CPE • Most are still beta • Early deployment if you are lucky • AVM, Draytek, Cisco, Juniper, Technicolor • Coming: Zyxel, Iskratel • Common issues • DUID not persistent because of timestamp • UI issues • Dependency on RA or SLAAC on WAN • PPPoE more popular • See RIPE-60 archives for more detail Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  12. 12. Provisioning • Basics are done • Database can support IPv6 • Most of the tooling ignores IPv6 • Time consuming and painstaking process • What do we need ? Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  13. 13. Services • Apache 1.3 -> 2.2 • custom modules • Hosting contains loads of unknowns • Sendmail needs some work • *.ipv6.xs4all.nl poses challenges for SSL Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  14. 14. Loadbalancers • Brocade serveriron (wsm6-ssl) on 11.0.0 • No feature parity • limited to 48 bits and broken • New firmware released last week (11.0.0e) • Still contains the bug • Waiting for ADX demo equipment • Should be 128 bits clean • Promises feature parity • Looking at alternatives • A10 • F5 • ...? Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  15. 15. Pilot • 300+ connected • Mailing list had high volume for a few weeks then slowed down • Most people are happy • CPE bugs seem a natural thing • Race condition leads to IPv6 only connection • Wish list: • Reverse DNS • Reverse DNS • Reverse DNS • More content Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  16. 16. A word of advice Start now ! Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
  17. 17. Cooperate • Use the resources at hand • Mailing list like • ipv6-wg@ripe.net • ipv6-ops@lists.cluenet.de • IETF v6ops • Specialized websites and fora • These kind of meetings • Make yourself heard ! Irish IPv6 Summit - May 19th 2010, Dublin Marco Hogewoning
