IT services in Lloyds Banking Group are delivered using an increasing mix of virtualised systems. This workshop will introduce some of the techniques and systems used to ensure that change risks are understood and fault impacts are managed across an environment with over 30000 host systems.

With an increasing number of virtual systems delivering IT service within Lloyds Banking Group, identifying the potential risks and impacted services is key. When you have over 30000 hosts and IT services delivered by a mix of in-house teams and outsource partners it is vital to develop a good change management system. A key part of any ITIL based service environment is the configuration management system that ensures risks and dependencies between systems are understood quickly by everyone. This workshop presented jointly by Lloyds Banking Group and AssetGen looks at how you communicate complex risks and the types of tools and techniques used. Some sample exercises will help the audience understand the importance of some basic issues.

Understanding Change Risks and ImpactsContinuous ImprovementIn 2011, we’ve: Embedded and refined the HBOS Configuration Item data introduced in November 2010 – one common system. Continued working with our Customers, Consumers and Suppliers to ensure that the CMDB data is correct, complete, understood and utilised to best advantage. Assessed how Storage and Network items can be represented. Implemented the Visualisation Tool that was purchased in December 2010 (Square Mile Systems’ AssetGen Sysmap).

Understanding Change Risks and ImpactsTo Summarise… Mapping Services to Hosts can be achieved at an Enterprise level – the techniques used and the underlying CMDB capability are vital. The CMDB provides consistency and a “single source of truth” for Incident, Problem and Change input, output and reporting across the bank. Visualisation is important to help Users, Service Owners, Data Owners and CMDB Administrators understand complexity for Change and Risk impacts.
