1. INTRODUCTION
• Honda accord hybrid is a parallel hybrid vehicle which have 2.0 litre engine
and motor and generator which is coupled together to drive the vehicle. It is
considered to be highly fuel efficient with the mileage of 48 miles per
gallon. It is Honda’s Hybrid which and is called 2 motor Honda Hybrid
system since it uses 2 motor one as generator and one permanent magnet
motor as a traction motor. For traction with electric motor it consist of
traction battery placed under rear seat

• It works in 3 modes one is EV mode other is engine only mode and last one is
ECVT mode in which both engine and motor drives the vehicle. It have a
feature to drive just generator as well which mode can be called as series
hybrid mode and the overdrive clutch remains disengaged and the vehicle is at
rest
2. ENERGY FLOW AND ARCHITECTURE
• Honda Accord Hybrid is a parallel hybrid consisting of ECVT which is made in such a way that the
vehicle can operate in 3 different modes.
• In motor only mode the energy flows from traction battery to the motor and engine is not working. If
SOC of battery decreases the engine rotates the generator and is used to either charge the traction battery
or drive the motor with that supply. In this condition the overdrive clutch remains disengaged

• Energy flow in case of engine only mode is from fuel tank to engine
and from engine to front wheels to drive the vehicle. The shaft is
also connected to the generator rotor and hence can also generate
electricity if needed
• In case of ECVT mode energy from both battery and fuel drives the
vehicle.

3. MODES OF OPERATION
• Mode 1: During startup, and up to 100 kmph the motor is used to propel the vehicle. If the battery SOC
is lower the engine switches on without engaging the overdrive clutch and only turns the generator to
generate electricity and charge the battery. This is similar to series hybrid. The transmission ratio at this
mode for driving is 8.398:1
• Mode 2: Once the speed is above 100kmph the engine is switched on and only IC engine is used to
drive the vehicle where in the 2.0l Atkinson cycle 4 cylinder, i-VTEC, DOHC engine performs well. At
this mode the motor is not powered and all the power comes from fuel to the engine. The generator shaft
is always connected to the output shaft of the engine through gears with the transmission ratio of around
2:1 and have a feature of generating electricity if needed also generator performs the function of
flywheel for the engine. At engine alone mode the transmission ratio is 2.575:1. The generator is used to
start the engine and rest of the time it acts as power generation unit

• Mode 3: While there is the need of higher power or torque at higher speeds the motor is also powered
and both machine is used to drive the vehicle providing 232 pound feet of torque and 212 hp. This mode
is also called ECVT mode by Honda
• Mode 4: While regenerative braking mode the final drive drives the engine final shaft which is
connected to generator shaft generating energy. Due to less gears in transmission there is less
transmission losses and less speed reduction.

Power control unit(PCU) consist of power converter form dc to ac or vice
versa and is liquid cooled. It also consists of Reactor that boosts the voltage
to 700V, an motor ECU that controls the drive (motor and generator),
Intelligent Power Module(IPM) that consists of DC-DC converter along with
battery pack and Capacitor for filtering the signals, Current sensor used to
detect the phases of current.
Vehicle stability Assist(VSA) Modulator
EPS(electric Power steering) unit for electric power steering in the vehicle in
which actuator assists the vehicle turning
Intelligent power unit(IPU) consists of battery, its cooling system, Battery
Management system(BMS), leak sensor, battery ECU, DC-DC Converter
and this unit provides the power to motor while in need and maintains the
battery, make it fail safe, thermally stable and helps in charging and
discharging.

  • 3. 1. INTRODUCTION • Honda accord hybrid is a parallel hybrid vehicle which have 2.0 litre engine and motor and generator which is coupled together to drive the vehicle. It is considered to be highly fuel efficient with the mileage of 48 miles per gallon. It is Honda’s Hybrid which and is called 2 motor Honda Hybrid system since it uses 2 motor one as generator and one permanent magnet motor as a traction motor. For traction with electric motor it consist of traction battery placed under rear seat 01/09/2021 Honda Accord Hybrid 3 • It works in 3 modes one is EV mode other is engine only mode and last one is ECVT mode in which both engine and motor drives the vehicle. It have a feature to drive just generator as well which mode can be called as series hybrid mode and the overdrive clutch remains disengaged and the vehicle is at rest

ENERGY FLOW AND ARCHITECTURE • Honda Accord Hybrid is a parallel hybrid consisting of ECVT which is made in such a way that the vehicle can operate in 3 different modes. • In motor only mode the energy flows from traction battery to the motor and engine is not working. If SOC of battery decreases the engine rotates the generator and is used to either charge the traction battery or drive the motor with that supply. In this condition the overdrive clutch remains disengaged 01/09/2021 Honda Accord Hybrid 4 • Energy flow in case of engine only mode is from fuel tank to engine and from engine to front wheels to drive the vehicle. The shaft is also connected to the generator rotor and hence can also generate electricity if needed • In case of ECVT mode energy from both battery and fuel drives the vehicle.

  • 6. 3. MODES OF OPERATION • Mode 1: During startup, and up to 100 kmph the motor is used to propel the vehicle. If the battery SOC is lower the engine switches on without engaging the overdrive clutch and only turns the generator to generate electricity and charge the battery. This is similar to series hybrid. The transmission ratio at this mode for driving is 8.398:1 • Mode 2: Once the speed is above 100kmph the engine is switched on and only IC engine is used to drive the vehicle where in the 2.0l Atkinson cycle 4 cylinder, i-VTEC, DOHC engine performs well. At this mode the motor is not powered and all the power comes from fuel to the engine. The generator shaft is always connected to the output shaft of the engine through gears with the transmission ratio of around 2:1 and have a feature of generating electricity if needed also generator performs the function of flywheel for the engine. At engine alone mode the transmission ratio is 2.575:1. The generator is used to start the engine and rest of the time it acts as power generation unit 01/09/2021 Honda Accord Hybrid 6
  • 7. • Mode 3: While there is the need of higher power or torque at higher speeds the motor is also powered and both machine is used to drive the vehicle providing 232 pound feet of torque and 212 hp. This mode is also called ECVT mode by Honda • Mode 4: While regenerative braking mode the final drive drives the engine final shaft which is connected to generator shaft generating energy.   • 17. 4. SPCIFICATIONS V. Power electronic controllers 01/09/2021 Honda Accord Hybrid 17 Power control unit(PCU) consist of power converter form dc to ac or vice versa and is liquid cooled. It also consists of Reactor that boosts the voltage to 700V, an motor ECU that controls the drive (motor and generator), Intelligent Power Module(IPM) that consists of DC-DC converter along with battery pack and Capacitor for filtering the signals, Current sensor used to detect the phases of current. Vehicle stability Assist(VSA) Modulator EPS(electric Power steering) unit for electric power steering in the vehicle in which actuator assists the vehicle turning Intelligent power unit(IPU) consists of battery, its cooling system, Battery Management system(BMS), leak sensor, battery ECU, DC-DC Converter and this unit provides the power to motor while in need and maintains the battery, make it fail safe, thermally stable and helps in charging and discharging.
