  2. Improving Quality Assurance and Communication in Tanzania Tanzania Dairy Board

Background • The overall objective of the project was to address the quality and safety of milk marketed by informal traders in Morogoro and Tanga, • To transform informal milk traders to formal businesses through training and certification approach and • Improve communication among dairy stakeholders through Dairy Development Forum

Training using BDS • Approach to facilitate training to dairy stakeholders through market development approach where by the selected BDS providers that are already in business were oriented through an induction course to carry out training on commercial basis where by dairy stakeholders who wish to attend training have to pay fees.
  6. • The programme through a competitive approach selected eight (8) BDS providers who attended a induction course and intended to carried training of stakeholders in Kilosa and Mvomero districts • This induction was guided by the Training of Trainers Module developed by ASARECA/PAAP and comprised of Lecture, group session and plenary discussion. In addition the induction also included the practical session which oriented the participants on the milk platform tests.
  7. Strengthening Regulation • the TDB in collaborated with LGA put in place dairy inspection system to regulate hygienic milk handling and trading. The minister appointed dairy inspectors and TDB facilitated the training of six (6)inspectors in the project area
  8. Communication among dairy stakeholders Dairy Development Forum Day 1 of 4th DDF • Six Task forces formed at the last DDF meet in respective groups to advanced their agenda on genetics – 1.Heifer/bull/semen production – 2.AI field delivery – 3.Recording registration system – 4. Farmer organizations – 5. Dairy Genetics Policy/ regulations – 6. Platform development and leadership • Update on progress made by task forces addressing issues around arrangements for multiplication and delivery of dairy genetics • Work plan development
  9. Day 2 of 4th DDF Business solutions for year round availability of quality feeds Task forces – Policy and regulation – Technological issues and tools – Information and capacity building – Pasture feeds availability
  10. 10th Nation Dairy Development Conference The NDDC Conducted in Musoma during the Milk Week on 30th May, 2014 Convened over 80 participants The theme was ‘Invest in Dairy for More Milk’
