Strategic partnerships in the CGIAR Research Program on Livestock and Fish

  1. Strategic partnerships in the CGIAR Research Program on Livestock and Fish Tom Randolph Livestock and Fish Review and Planning Meeting 23-26 March 2015 Virtual
  2. Why do we distinguish ‘strategic partnerships’? • We have many, many collaborators and ‘service providers’, but want to evolve certain collaborations into a more systematic partnership where we develop a joint program, with the partner integrated into the CRP planning, management and implementation – We view this as an opportunity to leverage expertise that CGIAR centres may not have – And to strengthen our ability to mobilize resources together
  3. Progress so far • Focus has primarily been on identifying partners at the global CRP level, on both research and development. We have targeted: • Research: – Wageningen University Research (Netherlands) – Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) • Development: – SNV (Netherlands) – CARE (USA) – GIZ (Germany) • Partner Agreements are near finalized for Wageningen and SLU, an MoU has been signed with SNV. Wageningen, SLU and GIZ have observers participating in our management committee meetings
  4. Next steps • Involving their researchers and staff in our planning, proposal development and activities within the Flagship Projects and value chains where appropriate • Establishing joint appointments, student projects, joint activities We recognize that more effort is now needed: • To strengthen and raise the visibility of strategic partnerships at regional and national level, and those specific to individual Flagship Projects
  5. CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for a food secure future. The CGIAR Research Program on Livestock and Fish aims to increase the productivity of small-scale livestock and fish systems in sustainable ways, making meat, milk and fish more available and affordable across the developing world.
