Why do classical approaches to surveillance fail? • National and international surveillance priorities lack relevance at local level. • Data providers unable or unwilling to report. • Data collection is expensive. • Data management is inefficient. • Material incentives to report are not sustainable. • It is too hard and not perceived to be worth the effort.
  6. Is there a better way? Using people-centred design and modern technology: • Put data providers and local users at the centre of the system. • Use technology to facilitate communication and make life easier. • Provide immediate benefit to the data providers. • Take advantage of the tools and technology that people are already using. • Use cloud-based platforms to integrate data from a range of sources.
