Multiply, package and deliver quality chickpea seed to member
cooperatives (smallholder farmers) in North
Bulk and buy chickpea grain from smallholder farmers through
Multipurpose Farmer Cooperatives
Train farmers on quality seed and grain production and potential
risks of failure in meeting the product quality attributes.
Tsehay Farmers Cooperative Union founded in 2000 with 5
cooperatives and is now is a Union of 63 cooperatives
working at 12 Woredas in North Gondar Zone with 42,768
smallholder farmers producing mainly sesame, chickpea,
malt barley, teff and ginger.
The union purchases barley, chickpea, teff and spices from
its members and sells different inputs (fertilizers, seeds and
herbicides), consumable items and construction materials for
discount for its members.
Tsehay Union’s vision is to improve the income and standard
of living of its members through agricultural production and
sustainable market linkages.
Tsehay Union also ensures the benefits of member farmers
through; processing and marketing products using agro-
industries; strengthening capacity building and knowledge
transfer; and market price information transfer
