Context
• Agricultural investment in sub-Saharan
Africa has increased food production at
smallholder level
• However, malnutrition rates are still high
due to focusing only on interventions that
increase food availability
• This demands integrating nutrition
sensitive interventions in agricultural
projects that build household’s knowledge
and capacity in nutrition
Our innovative approach
• We integrated Nutrition Sensitive
interventions in existing African Chicken
Genetic Gains (ACGG) project to improve
women and children diets through three
path ways: increased production;
increased expenditure; and women
empowerment
Future steps
• Adopting lessons learned into other similar
projects
• Building the capacity of partners to sustain
the outcomes
