The research entails gender analysis to understand gender
differences, their causes and consequences in livestock
production value chains
Two main components:
• Strategic gender research (subject of the research is directly
on gender) and
• Integrated (or mainstreamed) gender research -the gender
scientists work with other scientists
• Activities under the gender research component are
directly aligned with two flagship projects of the CGIAR
research program on Livestock and Fish:
• Systems Analysis for Sustainable Innovations (SASI)
• Value Chain Transformation and Scaling (VCTS)
• Gender research seeks to understand and respond
appropriately to socio-economic contexts within which
both men and women engage in livestock production
Research is guided by the Livestock and Fish gender strategy
