  9. Dr Amare says that switching to pellet feed has reduced production time from 49 days to 38 days.
  10. SECOND STOP: Alema Koudijs Feed Inc.
  11. Grains are first tested for moisture content, impurities and for issues like aflatoxin or weevils, for instance. If it passes these tests, it’s then cleaned and processed.
  12. Samples of each batch are tested and then stored for 4- 6 weeks for traceability.
  13. The plant runs 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. It is a joint venture with a Dutch company. “We keep 51% control though,” says our host Eskinder Mesfin.
