Overview of EMPPA <ul><li>EMPPA-Established in September, 2006 </li></ul><ul><li>Current members: 21 </li></ul><ul><li>EMPPA membership includes: Milk producers and processors, milk collectors and distributors, input suppliers and consultancy service providers </li></ul><ul><li>Work in harmony with different value chain actors </li></ul>

Objectives of EMPPA <ul><li>Produce quality based milk and milk products in terms of volume and diversity </li></ul><ul><li>Facilitate national and international market linkage which in turn can benefit the members </li></ul><ul><li>Arrange forum for information exchange and capacity building </li></ul>

Objectives Cont’d <ul><li>Assist technology transfer and training facilities in order to upgrade the skills / knowledge of its members’ </li></ul><ul><li>Support the members in obtaining various agricultural inputs locally/internationally </li></ul><ul><li>Make alliance with value chain actors in order to develop the national dairy sector </li></ul><ul><li>Provide advocacy in national dairy policy development and implementation strategy </li></ul>

Challenges <ul><li>Deprived linkage among producers and processors, processors-processors, producers-producers </li></ul><ul><li>Less emphasize was provided to the dairy sector </li></ul><ul><li>Be short of workable national dairy program and policy </li></ul><ul><li>Availability of inputs for dairy production </li></ul><ul><li>Insufficiency of quality based payment system </li></ul>

Challenges <ul><li>Dairy Packaging materials /milk utensils/dairy machineries availability </li></ul><ul><li>Home-grown dairy equipment/unit operations manufactures </li></ul><ul><li>Be deficient in guidelines for strict regulatory control over the production, processing and marketing of milk and milk products for the country </li></ul><ul><li>Linkage among dairy value chain actors towards sustainable development </li></ul>

Current Status <ul><li>Organize consultative meeting in order to discus and solve outstanding issues as well as exchange information in the dairy value chain </li></ul><ul><li>Provide platform on access to market </li></ul><ul><li>Quality based payment system: Develop incentive mechanism to dairy farmers </li></ul><ul><li>Facilitate training/capacity building and technology transfer </li></ul>

Current Status cont’d <ul><li>Get hold of legal certificate from The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Charities and Societies Agency </li></ul><ul><li>Strengthening the market linkage among members (Produces and Processors) </li></ul><ul><li>Develop contract agreement between producers and processors on whole milk </li></ul><ul><li>Working jointly together with the value chain actors towards National dairy development </li></ul>

Future Plan <ul><li>Finalize the registration process at the Ministry of Justice according to the new law of charities and societies: Certificate </li></ul><ul><li>Prepare, action plan, financial statement and develop EMPPA internal bylaw </li></ul><ul><li>Invite General assembly and approve the bylaw of EMMPA and leadership election </li></ul><ul><li>Open regional offices and recruit more members </li></ul><ul><li>Strengthening the linkage on the information net work system on marketing , production and dairy processing technology including packaging </li></ul>

Future Plan <ul><li>Facilitate training on milk handling, collection and transpiration and process technology </li></ul><ul><li>with the support of value chain actors and members </li></ul><ul><li>Organize experience sharing forum nationally and internationally </li></ul><ul><li>Refine the action plan/expected outputs in harmonization with the 5-years growth and transformation plan of the government </li></ul>
