Future steps
ü assess prevalence and incidence of
PPR
ü Genetic characterization of PPRV
isolates in Uganda
ü assess ex-ante socio and economic
impacts of PPR
ü Assess the effect of PPR vaccination
in combination with other vaccines
ü Establish diseases surveillances
system in project districts
ü Create multistakeholder platform to
discuss PPR control
Our approach
• Provide epidemiological data
(Nkamwesiga et al.)
• Provide gender-differentiated social and
economic data on impacts of PPR (Lule et
al.)
• Provide alternative for vaccine delivery
(Mabirizi et al.)
• CapDev: technical, institutional, service
providers, producers (VSF-G)
• Links with global and regional PPR
eradication efforts (MAAIF)

goats are at risk of PPR
• Livelihoods of 300 million poor people
affected
• PPR has been spreading into new areas
• Plan for global eradication by 2030
• Lack of epidemiological and
socioeconomic data constrains
eradication efforts
