Research at the Hub is conducted under the priority themes of:
• Food and nutritional safety and security
• Income generation for small scale producers
• Environmental sustainability, including the conservation and utilization
of biodiversity
• Increasing regional and international trade
Capacity building to empower African scientists and institutions
The Hub engages early career African scientists in a wide range of
activities which include annual training workshops, institutional capacity
development, the Africa Biosciences Challenge Fund (ABCF) fellowship
program.
Technologies and research related services to support regional,
national and international research institutes
The Hub ensures the continued availability of an up to date suite of
biosciences technologies and offer support services to researchers,
scientists, students and partners from national and international
agricultural research institutions, universities and the private sector.
Product development and delivery of tools for improved
agricultural diagnostics
The Hub is strengthening existing partnerships with the private sector
and other stakeholders including research fellows and visiting scientists
for the development of products such as crop and animal disease
diagnostic tools and their delivery by the private sector.
Building strategic partnerships with national and international
research institutions
The BecA-ILRI Hub is successfully helping build linkages in the region

What is the BecA-ILRI Hub?
The BecA-ILRI Hub is a shared agricultural research and biosciences
platform located at and managed by ILRI in Nairobi. It exists to increase
access to affordable, world-class research facilities and technologies that
will accelerate agricultural research and innovations by African and
international scientists conducting research on agricultural challenges on
the continent.
Who are our donors?
The BecA-ILRI Hub receives substantial financial support from Australian Agency for
International Development through the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial
Research Organisation (CSIRO), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Canadian
International Development Agency, the McKnight Foundation, Swedish Ministry for
Foreign Affairs through the Swedish International Development Cooperation
Agency, and the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture. A number of other
governments, and international and regional foundations and organizations also
provide invaluable support to our partners and scientists.
