Climate Action Mobile Media Van - CBA14 Dragons' Den

  1. 1. Imagine a moving bus with moderated conversations of young people by young people for young people on climate action.
  2. 2. Introducing the Climate Action Media Mobile Van Promoting climate action and awareness through experiential journalism/media, conservational tourism, community service with support of technology in Uganda with environmentally conscious young people actively responsible and participating in climate action in their communities.
  3. 3. Project Background • The Climate Action Mobile Media Van is a journalistic advocacy vehicle that will be used to create awareness about climate change and adaptation among youth in Uganda. The Van will be an attractive enabler for community outreaches to engage young people in a fun and disruptive way that will fuse journalism, travel, community service and climate action in one experience. • Young people struggle to comprehend the complex topics of climate change. The key result of this project is that young people will understand climate change, how it affects their community and how they can be involved as change agents because they associate it with the whole van experience and fun moments. • The fusion of journalistic storytelling, travel and live technology will enable our team of journalists to immerse themselves into the realities of climate change in the various communities and report from a contextual standpoint.
  4. 4. The Challenge • Uganda’s greenhouse gas emissions per capita in the world are estimated at 1.39 tons carbondioxide which is far below the global average of approximately 7.99 tons of carbondioxide yet Ugandans form a part of the group that will be the most affected by the impacts of climate change. • Public knowledge about the effects of climate change on the day-to- day lives of Ugandans and the existence of innovations that communities can adapt to mitigate its impacts is severely lacking. • Media coverage of environmental challenges such as climate change and disaster risk reduction is inadequate hence limited action is being taken by the majority of Ugandans that are most affected by these impacts. • Without effective communication of information and knowledge about Climate disasters communities are left without the power to take action for sustainable living.
  5. 5. The goal of the Climate Action Media Mobile Van project is: 1. To build a resilient movement of young people empowered with knowledge and tools on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning in their context to spur public action through experiential journalism and storytelling. 2. To increase local contextual knowledge, awareness and a sense of individual responsibility about climate change issues among young people in Uganda. 3. To promote effective media reporting about climate change in order to increase informed, relatable and compelling communication about climate change and disaster risk reduction in Uganda.
  6. 6. How it works - Pillars Community Engagement for Climate Action and Awareness • Drive to 100 communities targeting in school and out of school youth. • Youth will enter the bus and have conversations about climate change. • Recorded content will be shared on Social Media. Experiential Solutions Journalism in partnership with the communities • Young journalists immersed into the local community to experience first-hand the effects of climate change and cover human interest stories on climate change effects and adaptation solutions. • Screening of documented solutions different communities to stimulate ideas for replication. • Disruptive collaboration with the community to catalyze conversations and crowdsource solutions. Youth driven Conservation Tourism and Community Service Conservation tours for the youth: • To see Uganda’s natural Resources. • To learn about their tourism sites and how to protect the environment. • Practical conservation activities (e.g. planting trees and cleaning the environment. • 100 Days of Climate Media Action: 1000 stories, 10,000 youth planting 10,000 trees #MyTreeMyLife #TrackYourWASTE
  7. 7. Companies can hire this extra facility at their events to record live podcasts at their events • Social media studio events: used for live streaming of events as well as recording live production. An interview space to record the experience of the participants and sharing on social media immediately • Media Training: Our media training team can also be hired for any of your events to provide your participants with media training and they can try a hand on being a TV and radio presenter or even just broadcast communication and dealing with media interviews. • Research purposes through focus group discussions in video and audio • Mobile Product Activation: We will use the facility to host mobile product activations for companies that we share same values with providing their clients an opportunity to experience their products.
