Biodiversity mainstreaming in Zimbabwe: progress and challenges

Developing a biodiversity business case is key to stimulating mainstreaming in Zimbabwe, according to this presentation, given at the ‘Biodiversity mainstreaming’ workshop held in Sogakope, Ghana, from 1-3 November 2016.

The project team highlight how they have sought to engage with government work on implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, although delays in this process have frustrated progress.

Top lessons about successful mainstreaming • Development of a Biodiversity Business case - key to stimulate mainstreaming. • De-mystifying the concept of biodiversity and breaking it down in a way which is easy to comprehend for the lay-man makes it easier for everyone to take it on board. • It is important to have a trigger from within to activate mainstreaming processes.
  5. 5. 4. Top challenge/problem where you need help • SDGs run from 2016 – 2030 , whilst Zim Asset runs 2015-2018, thus creating problems of timing. Also, the SDG process still has to be launched, which has been a great setback. • Funding for strategic engagement meetings or programs • Training on natural capital accounting.
