Birr <ul><li>Birr is located at the centre of Ireland. </li></ul><ul><li>The hottest and coldest temperature are recorded here. </li></ul><ul><li>Birr is one of the finest Georgian towns in Ireland </li></ul><ul><li>There is a primary school and a secondary that caters for wide choice of subjects. </li></ul>

Town of Birr <ul><li>Some of the buildings here are very old. </li></ul><ul><li>Lot of the buildings were build by the Lord Rosse family. </li></ul><ul><li>The main street in Birr. </li></ul><ul><li>Every year Vintage Week is held on 15th - Friday 22nd August. </li></ul><ul><li>During the Parade on Sunday 12 August to this day it has it has not rained on this day. </li></ul>

  10. 10. The parade <ul><li>The parade consists of </li></ul><ul><li>modern machine and old </li></ul><ul><li>ones. People dressed </li></ul><ul><li>in costumes. </li></ul><ul><li>Everyone in the Birr and </li></ul><ul><li>outside get involved in this </li></ul><ul><li>festive season. </li></ul>
  11. 11. The Parade <ul><li>There are many different events on for the week. </li></ul><ul><li>Many people come from outside </li></ul><ul><li>to join in the festival. Brining </li></ul><ul><li>in art, craft, </li></ul>
  12. 12. Town of Birr <ul><li>The population of Birr is 4000 ,approx.. </li></ul><ul><li>The first person that was killed in Ireland by car was in Birr. </li></ul><ul><li>There was a distillery in Birr but now its closed </li></ul>

Hurling <ul><li>The first all-Ireland </li></ul><ul><li>between Galway and </li></ul><ul><li>Tipperary was played in </li></ul><ul><li>Birr in 1888. </li></ul><ul><li>Birr is big player when </li></ul><ul><li>it comes to hurling for a small town. </li></ul><ul><li>People from all over the world come </li></ul><ul><li>to see the Birr Castle. Why? </li></ul>

Telescope. <ul><li>The Birr castle. </li></ul><ul><li>It was the 3rd largest telescope in the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Which was the largest for 70 years. </li></ul><ul><li>Attracted astronomers </li></ul><ul><li>from all over the world </li></ul><ul><li>Constructed here at </li></ul><ul><li>Birr Castle in the </li></ul><ul><li>1840's by the third </li></ul><ul><li>Earl of Rosse </li></ul>

Birr castle <ul><li>The grounds of the </li></ul><ul><li>castle is very </li></ul><ul><li>enjoyably during the </li></ul><ul><li>summer months for </li></ul><ul><li>walking. </li></ul><ul><li>It has woods, forests, </li></ul><ul><li>river, lake and water. </li></ul><ul><li>Many families, students and tourists come here. </li></ul>

People <ul><li>Birr is a home for many different </li></ul><ul><li>nationality that live here: </li></ul><ul><li>British, Romania, African, Indian, </li></ul><ul><li>French, polish, Lithuanian and also us Irish. </li></ul><ul><li>We are happy to see all these different cultures coming to such a small town. </li></ul><ul><li>Lot of the Lithuanian people need to integrate into the community other then forming there own groups. </li></ul>
  17. 17. People <ul><li>No person in Birr died of hungry. </li></ul><ul><li>The people of Birr were the only people that didn’t starve during the famine. </li></ul><ul><li>The Rosse family employed them and paid them 20C a day. </li></ul>
  18. 18. Most Haunted Castle <ul><li>There is a castle called Leap Castle which is believed to be haunted Castle in Birr, Ireland and Europe. ( the castle is outside birr) </li></ul><ul><li>The castle is occupied </li></ul><ul><li>now with a family. </li></ul>

What’s in Birr. <ul><li>We have the garden of the castle open to people, the rivers for fresh water fishing, local clubs, slieve bloom mountains for walking( near Birr), the bog, 8 miles from River Shannon,( largest River in the British isle. </li></ul><ul><li>We are welcoming people and we welcome people from all over the world. </li></ul>

Quick facts. <ul><li>Birr is a Georgian town </li></ul><ul><li>The First telegram in 1853 was send in Ireland was from Birr To Dublin. </li></ul><ul><li>The person to be killed by a car was in Birr. (the person fell out of the car) </li></ul><ul><li>The third Earl of Rosse invented the largest telescope in Birr. </li></ul>
