  8. 8. 2. Benchmark Numérique Responsable • Target: large public and private companies • Goals – Enable large organizations to compare their … • environmental footprint (information system only), • as well as their maturity, – with a common measurement tool; – … in order to identify • best practices and actions to implement within each organization to lower IT footprint; • "champions" and their best practices to share. • Three editions – 2016 : BenchNR16 : Club Green IT + Cigref members, Club Green IT as the pilot – 2017 : BenchNR17 : Club Green IT + C3D members, WWF France as a partner – 2018 : WeGreenIT : open to all big private French companies, WWF France as the pilot • All the tools and methodology are based on the latest version of Club Green IT and GreenIT.fr tools used for more than 10 years on dozens of consulting missions.

Action plan • Quantification tools – Environmental footprint : based on a simplified LCA (screening) model and methodology (ISO 14040/44) – Maturity : based on Club Green IT repository of Green IT best practices and maturity quantification scale • In figures (WeGreenIT 2018) – 775 000 users – 24 000 IT team staff members – 285 000 m2 of office (dedicated to ICT team) – 55 500 m2 of data center – 148 122 000 kms (ICT team only from home to work) – 2 447 000 000 euros (ICT purchase) – 2 890 000 devices (ICT only)

  11. 11. 2. … to WeGreenIT 2018 • In association with WWF France • 26 private and public large organizations -> 3 time more participants • Footprint (water, GHG, energy), performance and maturity -> more KPIs • 90 to 125 data inputs per participant -> 4 time less • 46 days (excluding repord) -> same workload • What’s new ? – International LCA model – Scalable / unlimited model and methodology – 4 time less input data for the same results
  12. 12. 3. Lessons learned from the battlefield
  13. 13. What we learned • Data collection – Difficulty: there’s always missing datas. The tools and methodoly must take into account this context and “fill the holes” automatically / with no pain. – Solution: Previous editions of the BenchNR (2016 and 2017) where essential to calculate realistic and homogeneous average values. • Budget – Difficulty: As always in CSR we missed 3 times the budget to deliver 26 participants. – Solutions: • We invested in a brand new tool that automates everything possible (data holes, calculations, …). • We invest time in briefing participants and data collection • We divided by 3 the number of inputs required to achieve the same level of quality / precision • Perimeter – Difficulty: how to define a homogeneous scope from one company to another to compare what is comparable – Solutions: • Users as a common denominator; • Digital products and services totally or partly excluded from the study.
