  3. One Community for Sustainable Energy ASEAN’s News Insight 2019 Let’s observe the news we collected in the first quarter of 2019 … ASEAN Power Grid (APG) is considered as an important regional project, it is a surprise that only 2.9% of news are about Energy Cooperation and 20% about Renewable Power Projects.
  4. One Community for Sustainable Energy Progress on ASEAN’s Electricity Access ASEAN moves closer towards 100% electricity ratio, but some Member States still need intensified efforts. ASEAN moves closer towards 100% electricity ratio, but some Member States still need intensified efforts. MyanmarIndonesia Indonesia realizes 98.3 pct national electrification ratio The Indonesian electrification ratio in 2018 reached 98.3 per cent, showing a continuous growth from 84.3 per cent in 2014. Previously, the ratio stood at 95.3 per cent in 2017, 91.2 per cent in 2016, and 88.3 per cent in 2015 Myanmar’s electrification achieved 44% since Dec 2018, announced in Apr 2019 where soon 7 regions, states to get electricity access in Myanmar Philippines 2.7 million households are still without electricity in spite of the billions of funds already poured into NEA. To achieve 100% electrification goal, the tasks have been given to the DUs (distribution utilities), the electric cooperatives, and all. About 6.33 million out of 10.87 million households have no access to electricity. In December, 2018, 4.79 million households (44 per cent) have access to power while 6.087 million households (56 per cent) are in need of electricity. Government urged to speed up electrification in rural and Phiippines DoE reaffirms 100% electrification goal
  5. One Community for Sustainable Energy  Electrification achievement in ASEAN One of ASEAN’s goals is to achieve energy accessibility How is the update of ASEAN Electrification Achievement in Q1 2019? Vietnam Vietnam achieves nearly 99 percent electrification Vietnam has achieved nearly 99 percent electrification with relatively low cost in comparison to neighbouring country, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
  6. One Community for Sustainable Energy Updates on National Power Development Plans ASEAN is gearing towards greener planning, with more renewables incorporated into their power development plans ASEAN is gearing towards greener planning, with more renewables incorporated into their power development plans Vietnam Thailand National power plan expands private output Non-fossil power will represent 35% of total power capacity by 2037, while coal-fired power plants will be reduced to 12%. Thailand is very keen on renewable energy projects and energy conservation plans, while power imported from neighbouring countries is generated from hydropower Through strategic plan, Laos seeks to become regional hub for electricity transmission by 2025 Lao PDR Laos is developing a strategic plan to become the network center for a regional electricity transmission system by 2025. Within the next six years, Laos aims to export 9,000 MW of electricity to Thailand, 5,000 MW to Vietnam, 500 MW to Myanmar, 200 MW to Cambodia, and to distribute 100 MW to Malaysia. Cambodia

Hydropower projects and Strengthened Grid Infrastructure are the focus of ASEAN Power Grid in Q1 2019. Lao PDR is determined to be the regional hub for electricity transmission by 2020 Lao PDR Lao PDR is actively promoting Battery of Asia policy It is expected that within the next six years, Lao PDR could export 9,000 MW of electricity to Thailand, 5,000 MW to Vietnam, 500 MW to Myanmar, and 200 MW to Cambodia. Lao PDR had signed a tripartile electricity-trading agreement with Thailand and Malaysia in 2017 in which Lao PDR would sell 100 MW of electricity to Malaysia using Thailand’s power transmission network. Through Battery of Asia Policy, Lao PDR promotes energy security to the neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
  8. Cambodia One Community for Sustainable Energy Vietnam Vietnam, EVN has started 500kV back bone to connect Quang Trach plant to the National power grid. Mitigation effort for the power shortage in Southern region in 2021 due to projected demand increase and delayed power projects. Cambodia signed energy imports agreement in December 2018 with Lao PDR and extends the grid infrastructure to 5 provinces in order to electrify all villages by 2020 Cambodia will connect national grid to Tboung Khmum, Kampong Thom, Oddar Meanchey, Ratanakkiri and Mondulkiri Provinces. Myanmar ESE and 12 tender-winning companies just signed agreements under the National electrification project (NEP) Construction work on the first phase of NEP will start in March 2019 and will complete in 2021. The country expects to reach its target of 55 percent of electrification rate in 2021. One Community for Sustainable Energy Variable Renewable Energy in Each National Power System Solar booming in ASEAN allows more attractive mechanisms and development of advanced technologies Solar booming in ASEAN allows more attractive mechanisms and development of advanced technologies VietnamThailand Thailand added 30.8 MW Solar Farm by January 2019 With the latest addition from those seven solar farms, the SET-listed firm closed 2018 with combined capacity equity to 2,076 MWs, up by 26% from the previous year. Vietnam has shown notable achievement by finalising the commission of 550+ MWp solar project Malaysia Solar tariff in LSS2 is as low as 33.98 sen per kWh and is expected to go lower in LSS3 with open tender exercise. They are 100 MWp solar farm in Dak Lak Province, 64 MWp solar farm in Ninh Thuan Province, 70 MWp solar farm in Tay Ninh Province, and 350 MWp hybrid solar and wind farm in Ninh Thuan Province. Malaysia had opened the bids of the 3rd round of Large-Scale Solar (LSS3) scheme with the total target capacity of 500 MW
  10. One Community for Sustainable Energy Decentralised Energy Decentralised Energy through rooftop and virtual power plant are continued ASEAN’s Development on the Decentralised Energy VietnamSingapore Cache Logistics contracts Sembcorp for 7.9MW of rooftop solar projects in Singapore The 7.9MW of PV capacity will be installed on warehouses including the Commodity Hub, Pandan Logistics Hub and Cache Changi Districentre. When completed, Commodity Hub will house Singapore’s largest rooftop solar facility to date, standing at roughly 6.2MW capacity. In Vietnam, Solar rooftop panels ease thirst for power and its promotion Ho Chi Minh City alone has seen over 748 rooftop solar power owners registering to sell their surplus electricity to Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation, with a combined capacity of 11.55MWp. It sets up the target to restructure power usage towards a higher rate of renewable energy to reach 1-1.74 per cent of the city’s total consumption. Malaysia South Korean utility Busan City Gas is partnering with smart energy IoT solutions firms Shihwa SNC and I- ON Communications collaborating with Malaysian utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad develop a virtual power plant to integrate and tests an energy storage system with solar technology over a period of 30 months. Korea and Malaysia co-pilot $7 million virtual power plant system
