How ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation effort progresses
in the first quarter of 2019?
Let’s observe the news we collected in the first quarter of 2019 …
While Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) is considered as an
utmost important factor contributing to EI reduction in ASEAN, it is a
surprise that only 4% of news we found are about Energy Efficiency
and Conservation (EE&C).

ASEAN is pushing Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) through its policy
To strengthen the energy efficiency effort, some ASEAN countries are pursuing to put Energy Efficiency and
Conservation as an Act in their law.

Congress in the Philippines has finally managed to
create a law institutionalizing energy efficiency and
conservation.
The Philippines has had no energy efficiency law for
over 28 years, and is the last among the ASEAN
nations to enforce EE&C.
A regulatory framework, Energy Efficiency and Conservation
Act (EECA) will be put in place to renew the National Energy
Efficiency Action Plan, which is set out to achieve eight per
cent energy efficiency by 2020.
This act could be the first step towards mitigation of climate
change, better energy security, growing green economies
and delivering solid environmental benefits.

Energy efficiency opportunities lie vast for buildings
Cooling system alone accounts for up to 50% of a building energy consumption. It is a great potential for cost saving if
energy efficiency could be improved in order to reduce the work-load of the air-conditioning system in the building.

Moving toward Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C)
Energy efficiency is one of the most affordable ways for countries to meet their energy needs.
How ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation effort progresses
in the first quarter of 2019?
It requires all parties to support the green or smart building movement; the government,
developers, customers and also banks because the lack of awareness could affect green
building projects.
Energy efficiency has to be increased at all stages of the energy chain, from generation
to final consumption. At the same time, the benefits of energy efficiency must outweigh
the costs, for instance those that result from carrying out renovations.
