  4. One Community for Sustainable Energy How does Nuclear progresses in ASEAN?  Several AMS frontrunners has withdrawn its nuclear plan Vietnam Malaysia Thailand Malaysia won’t use nuclear power and would continue to rely on fuel sources and renewables to generate electricity Vietnam has also halted its plan to build its first nuclear plan due to economic reasons, especially given the fact that there are cheaper fuel options to generate energy are available in the country Thailand has also removed the plan to have its first nuclear plan by 2035 in the new launched Power Development Plan 2020-2037. Several hindrance factors Impact of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear incident in 2011 Public perception & acceptance is low Long construction period  high risk of ballooning cost Cheaper fuel & resource option are available in the country The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster, Japan, 2011 (Source: ejatlas)
  5. One Community for Sustainable Energy How does Nuclear progresses in ASEAN?  Other AMS frontrunner in nuclear still keen to pursue its plan and moving forward with it Philippines still shown great interest in pursuing nuclear in the near future. Philippines Philippines take the lead in the chairmanship of the Nuclear Energy Cooperation Sub-Sector Network (NEC-SSN) under starting last year, replacing Malaysia. The strong interest is also shown by the its will to explore in reviving the mothballed 620 MW Bataan Nuclear power plan to ensure energy security.
