What are the signs and symptoms? • Skin: hives, swelling, itching, warmth, redness • Breathing: coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest pain, trouble swallowing • Stomach: nausea, pain or cramps, vomiting, diarrhea • Heart: pale color, weak pulse, fainting, dizziness, shock • Other: anxiety, sense of dread, headache, metallic taste
  4. 4. What triggers anaphylaxis? • Foods and insects • Peanut, tree nuts • Milk • Egg • Soy • Wheat • Seafood (fish and shellfish) • Yellow jackets, hornets, wasps, honey bees
  5. 5. Risk Factors • History of asthma • Delayed use of epinephrine • Underlying heart disease • Previous history of anaphylaxis • 65% of children never had a previous episode • Most common in children from birth to 19
