Preferential trade agreements
(PTAs) in Asia-Pacific
• As of late 2016, there were 267 PTAs enforced globally
by WTO members; 63% of those , that is, 169 had at
least one party from Asia-Pacific* (up from 40 in 1995
and 9 in 1992)
• 81% of those enforced Asia-Pacific deals were bilateral
• 51% of those enforced PTAs had at least one party from
outside Asia-Pacific
• 48% of enforced PTAs included services (up from 3% in
2000)
