The document discusses IBM's new PureSystems family of expert integrated systems. It introduces the first two members, the Infrastructure System which optimizes infrastructure resources, and the Platform System which optimally deploys and runs applications. It outlines benefits like reduced costs, improved business velocity, and better user experience. A case study shows a European financial institution projected $1.7M savings over 3 years from labor reduction using PureSystems in their test/dev environment. The PureApplication System provides a simple, efficient and flexible virtualized application platform built for the cloud.
09/30/11 But think about the barriers in our way today. Business wants to grow and to do that they have goals they need to achieve – within the context of the new landscape we’ve talked about. Yet IT is constrained traditional computing models. How can we continue to spend the time, effort and dollars on the things on the right when we have to meet today’s need? We are also influenced by the digital generation – the consumerization of information technology has transformed us to a world where IT is becoming the fabric of how business and people interact – it is almost becoming transparent. New generation will just assume IT is a part of their lives. This adds new dimensions to the equation. We now must think about mobile and what that means for business to enterprise and business to consumer interactions. Social networks aren’t just about individuals – social business is significantly impacting how we related to customers and other businesses. Users are consuming and creating their own functionality – requiring significantly more elasticity and driving an huge acceleration in the iteration of solutions far beyond traditional demand cycles. Getting Up & Running Specify/Design: Takes 30 days for an IT infrastructure system Procure: Software & hardware ordered separately taking 5-20 days Integrate: Components arrive as “bag of parts” – requiring optimization Deploy: Can take weeks to months Development Operations Provision: Takes 30-60 days for a development or test environment Configure: Modified and non-standard Dev/Test/Production configurations cause errors and delay production deployments by weeks Ongoing Effort Customize/Tune: Meeting SLAs requires customization and ongoing tuning Scale: Lack of dynamic elasticity results in cumbersome re-allocation of resources Manage: Managing and monitoring with multiple tools is time consuming Maintain: Separate fixes require separate testing Upgrade: Months to plan, procure and test; days of downtime
Multiple approaches have emerged as we begin this shirt. We are tuning our own systems – using the flexibility of general purpose systems to optimize them for their business environment. However, as we just saw - the time and effort to do this can be significant. Other approaches have emerged as well. We are taking advantage of the simplicity of appliances and the elasticity of cloud where those approaches make sense. The question is – how can organizations get the best of all three of these options in one system?
Main Point: Announcing the IBM PureSystems family – delivering on the smarter computing promise - the world’s first family that truly delivers all the attributes of expert integrated systems Speaker Notes: Today we are announcing IBM PureSystems family of expert integrated systems. The family leveragee the expertise and best practices from decades of client engagements and optimizations around the world to address ordinarily complex tasks with patterns of expertise. They are fully integrated by design and tuned by IBM labs and factories. And the experience is simplified for you like nothing ever before. Because of this, the IBM PureSystems family truly delivers on the promise of Smarter Computing. The family is built for cloud with: Built-in cloud expertise Integrated cloud management Complete fully-virtualized cloud-ready infrastructure And is an integral part of the IBM SmartCloud The family is designed for data: << more words here >> An clearly these systems are tuned to the task – optimized for the workloads them need to run in a fashion never seen before. << more words here >>
Main Point: Announcing the first two members of the IBM PureSystems family – IBM PureFlex and IBM PureApplication Systems. Speaker Notes: Today we are announcing the first two members of IBM PureSystems family of expert integrated systems. Each member is integrated by design with built-in expertise – delivering a truly simplified experience. IBM PureFlex System Expert at sensing and anticipating resource needs to optimize your infrastructure Factory integrated and optimized system infrastructure Integrated management Automation and optimization expertise IBM PureApplication System Expert in optimally deploying and running applications for rapid time-to-value Expert designed, integrated and optimized application aware platform Workload patterns of expertise Simplified management with a single console All PureSystems systems are: Fully optimized Born virtualized Have a no compromise design with system level upgradability Are designed for cloud Let me tell you a little more about the secret sauce in these systems.

Main Point: IBM has the broadest open ecosystem of partners ready and able to provide industry expertise and solutions to clients and they now can take advantage of PureSystems Centre to deliver value even faster. Speaker Notes: IBM has the broadest open ecosystem of partners ready and able to provide industry expertise and solutions to clients. As I mentioned, We have developed PureSystems Centre - a catalog and solution showcase that simplifies deployment of partner and IBM applications Clients will be able to access l inks to direct downloads and find such items as: ISVs application patterns Acquire licenses and download of code or fixes Partner “ PureSystems Ready” offerings A single entry is searchable under multiple IBM offerings PureApplication System, SmartCloud Application Services… A repository of unified content with simple to find new content by category (industry, solution, geo etc) Access to the developer community Speaking of the development community we also have IBM developerWorks IBM developerWorks is the premier web-based technical resource and professional network for millions of IT practitioners, students, and university faculty, and worldwide. 4 million developers worldwide visit developerWorks every month, and we are providing them with the world class content they need to get up to speed on Troy as quickly as possible so that organizations that implement Troy can start seeing results faster. Technical, developer-focused resources available at launch include: Architectural Overview of Troy Overview of Virtual Application Pattern (VAP) Overview of Virtual System Patterns Plugin development kit: When should I extend an existing pattern or create a custom pattern? Learn how easy it is to consume a custom ISV pattern - PHP application with SugarCRM, Ruby on Rails with Troy Develop a VAP for Troy Transparency in Virtual Applications – behind the scenes How to create a virtual appliance with Troy Flex system Video: Partner – technical interview with Saba Technical Demos – Camtasia Basic VSP and VAP Blog – Staged posts on day of announce and continued drum beat afterwards
