ArBOOretum 2010 Instructions for Volunteers

  1. 1. Saturday, October 30th Members only admission: 10 - 11a.m. General Public: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  4. 4. Goals Raise money to support HANC’s education & conservation programs Educate the general public about some of the wildlife of Houston Provide a unique and exciting experience for visitors, encouraging them to get involved with Arboretum programs, join as a member, etc. Have fun!
  5. 5. Information for Volunteers Set up: Fri.: all day; Saturday: 8 – 10 a.m. 1st Volunteer Shift: 9:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. 2nd Shift: 1 to 5 p.m. Please allow time for parking, etc. Clean-up/Tear down: 4:30 – 7 p.m. Consider coming early/staying later to help with set up or tear down.
  6. 6. Information for Volunteers Volunteers should wear ArBOO t-shirt (pick up at Volunteer check-in) Please no masks/costumes. This is a non- scary, family event. Facepaint or fun hat are fine. Don’t wear perfume, other fragrances. Bring only the basics with you for volunteering. Few lockers are available in workroom area. Do not leave valuables in car.
  7. 7. Parking for Volunteers No Parking at HANC on Saturday Parking for Volunteers and staff at: 4801 Woodway: TQ Navigant Building Parking garage is first building on left when headed West on Woodway (Outside 610 Loop) Shuttle will be provided.

  10. 10. FYI: Parking for Visitors Parking for Visitors is located in lots on south side of Memorial Park east of Arboretum. Admissions, member’s check-in will be located near the front gate. Total of 2 buses running from satellite parking in Memorial Park Satellite Parking
  11. 11. Volunteer Check-In Shuttle from Parking Garage will drop off at HANC Entrance on Woodway Volunteer Check-In Station will be located at HANC Gate on the right (West) side. Sign in, pick up name tag, map, t-shirt, any last minute instructions, grab snacks.
  12. 12. Refreshments for Volunteers Please don’t take drinks, food from concessions. (unless paying) Food, drinks for volunteers will be located in workroom inside building, and at Volunteer Check-In at Front Entrance. Relief Volunteers will also be walking throughout the event to provide drinks, etc. as needed. Restrooms are located inside building and outside back of building.

Zone 8: Clean up/Tear Down Zone Leaders: Theo Ostler,Jim Crabb, Trevor Rubenstahl, George Hawkins Some clean up will start at 4:30 p.m. If you work second shift, please help carry things back from your station when staff closes it down. Things should be marked where to take back for storage.
  19. 19. Additional Help  Friday, Oct. 29: Event Set up 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Prep work * Saturday: 8 – 10 AM: Event Set up * Event Tear Down: 4:30 – 7 p.m.

Things we need: Pumpkin Decorating Supplies: Ribbon, beads, Elmer’s Glue, Permanent Markers, Stickers, etc. Refreshments for volunteers (make or donate) Sandwiches, pretzels, chips (portable food) Things needed To Borrow: Ice Chests – large Ice Chests – lunch size Pop-up Tents
