APPROVED CURRICULUM Physical techniques, tactical and strategies taught in this course are drawn from the official US Army Protective Services program. [FM 19-10] Included are core training components and tactics as described in the US State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) High Threat Operations WPPS/WPS Course. TRAINING WAIVER As a courtesy to veterans, most city, state and county government security licensing agencies to recognize prior training received in the military or law enforcement work as up-to-acceptable for guard licensing purposes. On a case-by-case basis an individual may be granted a “training waiver” and be issued one or more of the following; a) A Security Guard License b) General Security Services Instructor c) Firearms Instructor License Contact the security licensing board in your state or region for training waiver eligibility requirements. Successful graduates of certain HCT sponsored training courses have submitted to state security licensing agencies; proof of MIL/LE experience, proof of security work experience, proof of HCT completed training and other courses. On a case—by-case basis many HCT alumni have received a ‘training waiver’ and were granted a License as referenced above. It should also be noted that most US states hold ‘reciprocity agreements’ with other states near their border. This means, a security guard license issued by one state may be accepted and recognized by many other US states as valid for work. TRAINING METHODOLOGIES a. All training is conducted in a professional manner, in a clean and well equipped environment. b. HCT Instructors use proven effective teaching strategies to promote effective learning in adult auditory learners, visual learners, surface learners and deeper learners. c. HCT Instructors use audio/video film, PowerPoint© presentations, slide shows, lecture, focus group study and interactive dialogue in the delivery of training. d. R.O.P.E.S. Training Model:  Review; to conduct a review of the learners' general knowledge of and experience with the topic.  Overview; to establish a connection between the learners and the training content that will engage the learner and motivate them to learn.  Present; the content to learners in ways that helps them comprehend and retain the information.  Exercises; to enable the learners to practice using the training content in order to build and reinforce skills.  Summarize; to clarify what was learned and bring closure to the training sessions. INSTRUCTOR CREDENTIALS HCT instructors are ‘train-the-trainer’ certified experts drawn from the ranks of domestic and foreign MIL/LE or possess an appropriate background relevant to the course content. All HCT instructors have undergone extensive Diplomatic Security Services (DS) high threat operations training, hold instructor credentials, and bring invaluable real world operational experience. ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION Student assessment and grading is based on the following criteria:  100% score on physical exercise fitness screening. *US Army Standards.  70% minimum score on a 25 page written examination consisting of 150 questions requiring descriptive answers, thorough explanations and essay.  70% minimum score on oral quizzes.  Instructor final consensus CONDITIONS Training is conducted in several environments:  50% indoor classroom – consisting of lecture, workbook study, video/PowerPoint and interactive dialogue.  50% outdoor field exercises – consisting of hotel/motel urban environment training, shopping mall foot escort training, motorcade operations training on public roadways, and red team/blue team role play in an open field (rugby grounds or similar). GEAR Business casual clothing (polo shirts, cargo pants or Docker™ type slacks), at least one pair of jeans, a raincoat, workout clothing appropriate for defensive training, one pair of business slacks/pants, a matching suit jacket, and appropriate shoes. A laptop computer is not mandatory, but will prove be helping in academic portions and mission planning segments of the course. FIREARMS QUALIFICATION Many US state security licensing agencies do not require live fire weapons qualification as a requirement to earn Protective Security Specialist (PSS or PPS) certification. These are decisions made by actual state governments. HCT has no control over such decisions. Notwithstanding, Hostile Control Tactics requires that all course attendees undergo live fire pistol qualification and in some instance carbine training and qualification as well. Incorporated into weapons training and qualification, there will be extensive force-on-force role play, drills and skill assessment evaluation utilizing Airsoft gear. Modern research in the science of fight-or-flight response indicates that shooting at static paper targets fails to sufficiently prepare a person for real world combat. Static training fails to stimulate extreme fear, confusion or place the sympathetic nervous system under duress. Airsoft training is a proven effective training method used by Special Operations military and law enforcement units to replicate the stress of real combat in a training environment.
