  1. 2. まんが <ul><li>漫画 (Manga) means “whimsical pictures”. </li></ul><ul><li>Santou Kyouden is known to be the first person to create a manga in 1798. </li></ul><ul><li>People who create manga are called Mangaka ( まんがか ). </li></ul><ul><li>Manga that is fan fiction is called doujinshi ( どうじんし / 同人誌 ) </li></ul>
  2. 3. How まんが is     Read <ul><li>In Japan, books and manga open from the right. </li></ul><ul><li>Manga is traditionally read from the top right to the bottom left. </li></ul>
  3. 4. <ul><li>Magazines </li></ul><ul><li>A Manga magazine is a compilation of many different manga </li></ul><ul><li>Different magazine groups license the manga and use it in their magazines </li></ul><ul><li>In these magazines the manga aren’t put in by volume (each book) but by chapter </li></ul><ul><li>Examples: Newtype, Shounen Jump. </li></ul><ul><li>In Japan in 2007 the まんが industry brought $3.6 billion. </li></ul>
  4. 5. アニメ <ul><li>アニメ is an abbreviated form of “animation”. </li></ul><ul><li>In English speaking countries anime is known as Japanese Cartoons </li></ul><ul><li>Earliest known date of when anime was created was in 1914. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The person who did this animation was unknown. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Osamu Tezuka. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Created Astro Boy ( てつわんアトム (see right)) and </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Black Jack ( ブラック・ジャック ). </li></ul><ul><li>Mecha Genre created in 1970s </li></ul>
  5. 6. <ul><li>Sometimes locations in anime/manga will be based on a place in real life - Tourist spots for readers / viewers </li></ul><ul><li>Similarities: Walkway and Train rails </li></ul><ul><li>アニメ:とあるまじゅつのもくろく </li></ul>
