The Pulpit Commentary says it this way:
Verse 9. - Therefore my heart is glad, and my
glory rejoiceth. The thought of God's continual
presence at his right hand causes David's
"heart" to be "glad," and his "glory" - i.e.his soul,
or spirit (Genesis 49:6), man's true glory - to
rejoice. My flesh also shall rest in hope. His
"flesh" - his corporeal nature, united closely with
his "heart" and "spirit" - rests, and will rest,
secure, confident that God will watch over it,
and make the whole complex man - body, soul,
and spirit - to "dwell in safety" (Psalm 4:8).

•A life of sacrificial giving. The “All In – For Him” mentality gives of time, talent, treasure, and trust. It understands that the only way to gain is to
30. ALL IN – FOR HIM
The first story is in motion as Elisha, the most
celebrated miracle worker of the Old Testament,
considers a woman of Shunam. She is not a
Jewess. She has sufficient wealth. As she
observes the man of God in his travels, she
goes to her husband and they decide to provide
a place for him to stay any time he is in their
town. She gives safety, lodging, a warm home,
food, and friendship. What a great servant heart
of a giver!
31. ALL IN – FOR HIM
Elisha is impressed and is talking with his
travelling servant. II Kings 4:13 And he
said to him, “Say now to her, „Look, you
have been concerned for us with all this
care. What can I do for you?” Elisha
looks to her service. She is an “All in –
For Him” servant of God and God‟s
minister. She gives her house, her
finances, her food, her family, her
friendship, and her faith. She gives. She
32. ALL IN - FOR HIM
The son grows and then dies suddenly. The
woman goes directly to Elisha, who is in another
city at the time. Elisha immediately responds.
God goes with Elisha and the boy is raised from
the dead. Her life of service and faith is touched
with health and restoration.
There are other routes to health and healing. We
are just talking about one here. This is one that
touches the face and favor of God.
33. ALL IN - FOR HIM
The result is Elisha speaks life into her womb
and she has a child in her old age. This is a
great reward. Only a few instances like this are
recorded in history and each of them is an act of
God. Here God moves through Elisha to bless
one that is “All in – For Him” with miracle
health and vibrancy.
34. "ALL IN - FOR HIM" .....PETER’S FAMILY
In Matthew 8:14-15 “Now when
Jesus had come into Peter‟s
house, He saw his wife‟s mother
lying sick with a fever. And He
touched her hand, and the fever
left her. The she arose and
served them.”
35. "ALL IN - FOR HIM" .....PETER’S FAMILY
Peter‟s family is another “All in – For Him”
group. Peter gives his life on the road.
Peter stands by Jesus. Peter‟s family
home serves as a place of rest and
refreshment not just for Jesus, but Jesus
travels with a team. This woman pops up
from a fever that has her bed ridden and
gives service to a troop. This is an “All in
– For Him” household. They are intent to
bless God and bless God‟s ministry.
36. "ALL IN - FOR HIM" ..... ELISHA’S LIFE
2 Kings 13:21So it was, as they

the bones of Elisha, he revived

“Elisha the son of
Shaphat ishere, who poured
38. The last story is Elisha himself. After he dies, some
men are on the run from the enemy. They stop at
Elisha‟s grave and put a fallen soldier in the tomb.
When he touches the bones of Elisha, he gets up
and runs with them. Elisha had an “All in – For
Him” approach. When Elijah came to him and
called him to serve, he was a wealthy landowner.
He burned his oxen, left his family and served
Elijah for 30 years. The miracles surrounding
Elisha are surpassed only by Jesus. Elisha lived
miracles of health and healing and restoration. He
was an “All In – For Him” kinda guy.

A life dedicated to God‟s glory. David, Elisha,
the woman from Shunam, and Peter‟s
household all show this.
A life dedicated to others. Again, we see
this emphasis. When you study the
miracles of God through Elisha, you will
note he is constantly moved by the
condition of others who are servants. He
himself is an exemplary servant.
45. ALL IN – FOR HIM – THE HIM IS JESUS
A life dedicated to separation from wrong
influence. David declares he will
participate in no way with parts of the
world that separate from Gods‟ influence.
This is a common theme in his writings.
46. ALL IN – FOR HIM – THE HIM IS JESUS
A life dedicated to wisdom principles in
scripture. There is full balance offered in

You don‟t have to quit your job or take on a
major ministry to be “All In – For Him”.
The woman of Shunam continued her
trade in her community. Peter‟s mother-in-
law lived her life in the home. David lived
as a government and military leader. They
lived “All In – For Him” blessed in
whatever the call of God. God honors and
sanctifies who we are where we are.
