• We recently nominated DC for the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition’s Achievement Award for their commitment to using natural gas vehicles. After ordering 15 more GX two weeks ago, DC now operates 61 GX within their parking enforcement and pool fleets. The cars have exceeded their expectations. Drivers love them and mechanics rarely see them. The program has been so successful that the Mayor refers to it in speeches around the City.
  • You can’t talk about natural gas vehicles without mentioning natural gas fueling solutions. North American based, Fuelmaker, provides a variety of products designed to meet your fleets refueling needs. From their small, time-fill FMQ-2 to their fast-fill capable FMQ-8, Fuelmaker can provide a economical, safe, and easily installed vehicle refueling system.
  • A third step is to link the adjacent regions. Accessible stations along major highways will promote vehicle utility and greater use, and help educate the public. Note, early user/customer input will be key to the siting of some of these stations. A practical progression of stations will support early customers, form a network, and fit a visionary framework. The bottom-up approach helps assure useful station investments are made, and that learnings are incorporated as part of the process.

    11. 12. Not surprising the GX is the “Greenest” vehicle available!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 15, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Amidst excitement over new advanced technology vehicles entering the market and worries about sustained high gas prices, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) today announced this year's "greenest" and "meanest" vehicles, along with the environmental scorings of all model year 2005 cars and passenger trucks. The vehicle scores are part of ACEEE's Green Book® Online , the eighth annual edition of ACEEE's environmental guide to cars and trucks, available online at GreenerCars.com .

Retaining the distinction as the greenest vehicle of the year is Honda's natural gas-powered Civic GX.

    13. 14. To put this into perspective…

The exhaust from the Honda Civic GX is often cleaner than the outside air you are breathing.

One cup of gasoline spilt is more polluting to our environment than the exhaust from driving a Honda Civic GX 100,000 miles

    14. 15. You are not compromising your safety in operating the Honda Civic GX The Honda Civic GX has been awarded a Five Star Frontal Rating for both Driver and Passenger by the NHTSA
    15. 16. The Civic was crushed to the “B” pillar behind the driver’s seat. According to the NYSDOT fleet manager, the accident investigator stated that the strength provided by compressed natural gas fuel tank probably saved the driver’s life. The Driver walked away. There was no leak or rupture of the natural gas fuel tank or system. A NYSDOT employee was driving a dedicated natural gas Honda Civic GX on a public highway in the early summer of 2002. He was struck from behind by a fully loaded gasoline tanker truck.
    16. 17. Procurement Cost of the GX

The cost of the GX is similar to the cost of available Hybrid sedans. In Colorado, available tax credits reduce the price of the GX to just $175 over the comparable gas Civic. In just six months, you will save enough in fuel costs to offset the difference completely. Not to mention the valuable time you will save traveling the HOV lane with a single occupant.

You can visit: http://www.eere.energy.gov/cleancities/vbg/fleets/state_incentive.html

for a brief description of incentives available in your area.
