  5. 5. How the process works Open the bag Purchase the bags from any good DIY store. The HIPPOBAG is an immediate waste container and can be stored until needed. 1 Fill it up Minimal disruption to your day, the bag avoids the need to double handle waste and keeps the premises tidy. 2 We collect Once the collection is booked, HIPPOWASTE will collect the bag within 3 working days . 3

Filling the bag <ul><li>Open and ‘cuff’ the HIPPOBAG </li></ul><ul><li>Fill corners first with heavy items so the weight is distributed evenly. </li></ul><ul><li>Fill the bag to the top but don’t overfill it. </li></ul><ul><li>The MEGABAG is designed for bathroom rip-outs; put the bath in first and pack other waste in and around it </li></ul><ul><li>Please don’t use ‘greedy boards’ and overload bag </li></ul>

Positioning the HIPPOBAG <ul><li>Access to the road must be at least 4m </li></ul><ul><li>The HIPPOBAG cannot be positioned more than 4m from the kerb </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure the handles are left clear </li></ul><ul><li>Do not obstruct the HIPPOBAG with parked cars, cables or trees etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Nothing over 6’ high must be in between the road and the bag, or we may not be able to lift it </li></ul>

Positioning the HIPPOBAG <ul><li>DON’T: </li></ul><ul><li>Leave the HIPPOBAG on the road, pavement or verges without prior permission from the local council </li></ul><ul><li>Overfill the HIPPOBAG </li></ul><ul><li>Include any hazardous waste </li></ul><ul><li>Position the bag out of reach or up a block paved driveway </li></ul>

The collection <ul><li>Bags are collected by a 26 ton DAF lorry as standard, a 7.5 ton van is available for restricted access roads (surcharge applies) </li></ul><ul><li>Drivers will assess the contents of each bag before attempting to lift it </li></ul><ul><li>The driver will work with you to ensure successful collection but their decision is final! </li></ul>

Plasterboard legislation <ul><li>Small amounts of plasterboard can be placed in a clear bag on top of a HIPPOBAG so it can easily be separated and recycled later. </li></ul><ul><li>Large amounts of plasterboard can be put in a different HIPPOBAG away from other waste streams. </li></ul><ul><li>The EA clearly states: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>“ This material must not be land-filled with </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>biodegradable waste. Producers of gypsum waste </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>should separate it for recovery and recycling”. </li></ul></ul>
