INTRODUCTION• Trade Union is an organization whose membership consist workers and union leaders with purpose to protect and promote their common interest• Section 2 of the Trade Unions Ordinance 1959, a Trade Union is define as any association of combination of workmen or employers, being workmen or employers whose place of works is in the states of Malaya, Sabah or Sarawak.
Continue….• common purposes of establishment of Trade Union are to negotiate wages and working condition terms, regulate relation between workers and employer, take collective action to enforce the terms of collective bargaining and help settle their grievances
BACKGROUND• the largest union in Sarawak - the second largest in Malaysia• registered by the Registrar of Trade Union on 29th March 1965• organization nature - Non-Profit Organization• The Official opening of the Sarawak Teachers’ Union Headquarters building in Kuching by the State Secretary of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Haji Abang Yusuf Puteh on 15th December 1980

PROBLEM / ISSUES1. the teachers in Sarawak want to have a fair salary structure2. STU wants girl students caned too3. the management needs to check on every part of the building and facilities are part of the issue that has arisen in STU
INITIATIVE TAKEN1. the government should introduce the new grading system2. Canned the girl student too in order to increase their diciplines3. appointed authorities to monitor the safety of school buildings
BENEFITS1. members of STU will get group insurances such as AMAL Group Scheme, AMAL Children Education Scheme, AMAL Group Comprehensive Assurance Scheme etc.2. Koperasi STU Berhad (KOGURU)3. members will get welfare such as member’s death, critical illness and on retirement4. legal advisor, where the members will seek legal advices
CONCLUSION• union were establish to protect the benefits of its member as well as to Sarawak teacher union where the members can speak out their anxiousness about the issue that related to their profession and they also can discuss about the issue to achieve the best decision or solution. Without the trade union as such STU, the teachers only can conceal their disappointed towards the issue relating the wages, allowances, and so on and the most worst is they tend to do strike or picket as their way to bargain with their employer which then only can give them the bad result such as the employer take an action like lock-out to preventing them from spreading employees action and as a result the teachers or employees that has been lock-out get nothing in return and unemployed.
