What Copper Is: Copper is by definition is a malleable, ductile, metallic element having a
characteristic reddishbrown color: used in large quantities as an electrical conductor and in the
manufacture of alloys, as brass and bronze.
History of Copper: Copper comes from the Latin word cuprum, meaning “from the island of
Cyprus.” It is known as man’s oldest metal, dating back to more than 10, 000 years ago. One of
the “age’s” or stages of human history is named after a copper alloy, bronze. Copper has played a
huge role in many different civilizations including Egyptians, Romans, and modern day culture’s
What is copper used in everyday life: Copper is very important in our daily life. One reason
why is because we can make alloys out of copper. (alloys are mixtures of metals with another
element creating stronger metals. Ie braz and bronze) These are helpful when we need stronger
metals or metals that are more corrosive resistant.
Is Copper In Our Body: Copper is a vital metal found throughout our bodies. Copper helps
create blood cells, boost our immune system, and enhance our nerve cells count. Copper also
helps our bodies absorb iron, our body also uses copper to create energy. Although we do not
need substantially big amounts of copper in our diet most people do not know the benefits it does
for us, and lack the amount of copper we need in our body.
What Copper Is Good At: Copper is a great conductor and has been used in electrical wiring
since the 1820’s. Almost half of the copper mined is used in manufacturing cable conductors and
electrical wires. Copper allows electrons to move freely through the metal. The reason why
copper wires are used for cables in houses and underground wiring. Copper wire can also be
wound into a coil. The coil will produce a magnetic field, and because it’s made of copper, won’t
waste much electrical energy. Some devices that coils can be found in electromagnets, motors,
dynamos, and transformers.
Where its found? The largest copper mine is located in Utah but in the world's largest producer
is in Chile with Peru as a close second.
