  2. 2. Have you ever heard yourself say . . . I can't find my . . . notes, homework, old quizzes . . . I was absent last week, did I miss anything? I can't remember what we did in class yesterday. I'm sure its in . . . my locker . . . my book bag . . . my room . . .
  3. 3. Get it together with your Interactive Notebook
  4. 4. What is an Interactive Notebook? <ul><li>A personalized textbook </li></ul><ul><li>A working portfolio – all of your notes and a lot of your class work – in one convenient spot. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Personalized Textbook <ul><li>Only 25% of what you need to know this year is in the textbook. </li></ul><ul><li>That means 75% of what you need to learn this year will come from other sources, like notes, worksheets, PowerPoints, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Your notebook will be like your text for this class. </li></ul><ul><li>You will use it as the primary resource to study for tests. </li></ul>

Student Materials <ul><li>Mead 5 Star (8 1/2 by 11) spiral notebook ( If you get a different brand, make sure it is the correct size.) </li></ul><ul><li>Glue sticks or bottled school glue </li></ul><ul><li>Scissors – to trim pages if necessary. </li></ul><ul><li>Colored pencils </li></ul><ul><li>Highlighters to emphasize certain information. </li></ul>

Table of Contents <ul><li>You must have a Table of Contents in the front of your notebook. </li></ul><ul><li>We will be updating this regularly as we use the notebook on a daily basis. </li></ul><ul><li>There will be a Table of Contents posted in the room and on-line so that you can keep up with it and check it in the event you are absent one day. </li></ul>

Maintaining the Interactive Notebook <ul><li>No ripped out pages or torn corners </li></ul><ul><li>No doodling that doesn’t relate to notes </li></ul><ul><li>Notebook should only be used in Social Studies. (No other classes!) </li></ul><ul><li>Date and number each page </li></ul><ul><li>Keep up with the Table of Contents </li></ul>
  9. 9. Be Bright <ul><li>Make sure your name is in it. </li></ul><ul><li>Bring your notebook to class EVERY DAY. </li></ul><ul><li>Keep the Table of Contents up to date. </li></ul><ul><li>Never loan out your notebook. </li></ul>
  10. 10. DEADLINE <ul><li>You must have your Mead Five Star notebook by Monday, August 17. </li></ul><ul><li>If there is a reason why your parents cannot get you one, please see me privately. </li></ul>
