Users and content are easily findable by the broader Twitter community (source: apstylebook.com). Twitter users are active! 46% of Twitter users are daily visitors (with 29% visiting multiple times per day).   5. 5. A few terms and phrases that will help you make the most of Twitter: • Twitter Handle – AKA: Username. This appears in your URL, twitter.com/username, and is used for logging in, @replies and direct messages. Can be up to 15 characters, no spaces. • @ – The @ sign is used to call out usernames in Tweets, such as: Hello @LilMsSociable. When a user name is preceded by the @ sign, it becomes a clickable Twitter profile link. • Tweet – 140 character or less (including spaces) status update. Includes any characters used up by short links and links to videos or images. • Hashtag – The # symbol is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. Most importantly, it’s searchable and can be used to spot trends. • Follow – To subscribe to an individual’s Tweets or updates.   6. 6. • Mention – Mention a user in your Tweet by including the @ sign followed directly by their username. Also references Tweets in which your username was included. • Direct Message – Also called a DM, these Tweets are private between the sender and recipient. You must both follow each other in order to send and receive direct messages. • ReTweet – The act of forwarding another user's Tweet to all of your followers. • Quoted Tweet – Adding commentary to another’s Tweet before sharing with your followers. • Favorite – To mark a Tweet as one of your favorites by clicking the yellow star next to the message. Tweet Chats are online conversations driven by a hashtag around a specific topic, typically featuring multiple hosts. Timing: - Usually an hour long. - Oftentimes recurring. - Fast-paced, dense conversation.
