In fact, Hayley Ninnis has recently purchased an old home to flip. Home renovations may present a number of unexpected challenges. This is particularly true of older or historic homes. For instance, parts of the property might have significant water damage or mold, or have lead fixtures. When renovating older homes, an owner shouldn’t have an overly limited budget.
  3. 3. Renovating Old Homes  Additionally, the owner should consider the building’s historic character. Features such as decorative moldings create interest for potential buyers and make the building stand out among others that lack this unique character. In fact, preserving original features typically adds to the building’s worth. Therefore, a renovator should try to keep these features wherever possible while modernizing the building in other ways. For example, new paneling or tiles should not be installed by using nails or other methods that might damage the originals underneath.
