Technological innovation
Media Management
 Technological innovation is an extended concept of innovation.
While innovation is a rather well-defined concept, it has a broad
meaning to many people, and especially numerous
understanding in the academic and business world.
 Media management is seen as a business administration
discipline that identifies and describes strategic and operational
phenomena and problems in the leadership of media
enterprises.
Media
Management
Simply Defined
Media planning: The series of decisions involved in
delivering the message to the target audience.
Media plan: The actual document detailing media
planning decisions.
Media objectives: Objectives of media plan.
Media strategies: action plans to reach objectives.
Medium: channel such as print, broadcast.
Media vehicle: Specific carrier in a media category
(television, magazines).
Media innovation
Media innovation can include change in
several aspects of the media landscape –
from the development of
new media platforms, to new business
models, to new ways of
producing media texts. There are many ways
of conceptualising what kinds of
change media in- novation involve
Technology
 Technology can be a powerful tool for transforming learning. It can help
affirm and advance relationships between educators and students,
reinvent our approaches to learning and collaboration, shrink long-
standing equity and accessibility gaps, and adapt learning experiences to
meet the needs of all learners.
 Technology impacts the environment, people and the society as a whole.
The way we use technology determines if its impacts are positive to the
society or negative. For example, (POSITIVE IMPACT) we can use corn to
make ethanol and this ethanol can be used as fuel.
 The increased automation of manufacturing and many other jobs, thanks
to computers, means greater efficiency, less people doing boring repetitive
jobs, and an increase in flexibility regarding work times.
Process of technological innovation
 If the process of technological innovation is formalized (typically within an
organization: a company, a public entity, a think tank, a university, etc.) it can be
referred as Technological Innovation Management (or Technology Innovation
Management - TIM). The "management" aspect refers to the inputs, outputs and
constraints a "Manager" or team of "Managers" are responsible to govern the
process of technological innovation in a way that aligns with the company strategy.
In a context where Technological Innovation is not to be guided along known paths
within the organization, the wording and concept of Technological Innovation
Leadership is preferred. In many occasion, especially in start-ups and new ventures,
the Technological Innovation is performed in an unknown context. The boundaries
and constraints of the Technology at work are not precisely know. Hence it requires
leaders and not managers to give the vision and coach the team to explore the
unknown part of the technology
Negative impact of technological
innovations
 Social skills-Vast use of tech solutions is likely to result in poor social skills.
 Education-The Internet has become a great tool for learning.
 Physical effects-Among the most dangerous effects of technology is obesity.
 Privacy and security-If being misused, technology can expose you to a number
of risks.
 Mental health-One of the most dramatic impacts of technology is the decline of
the quality and quantity of sleep.
Negative effects of media
 Increased customer power
 Unauthorized personnel speaking on behalf of the company
 Reduces employee productivity
 Reduces employee relations
 Leads to a strategic shift
 Difficult to track misleading or negative comments
 Reduces Confidentiality and image of the company
 Depression and Anxiety
 Cyberbullying
 FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)
 Unrealistic Expectations
 Unhealthy Sleep Patterns
Positive impact of technological
innovations
 1: Effective Transportation
Cars have become so ubiquitous in the world that many individuals can’t even imagine life without
them. They aren’t the only transportation to have changed the human environment, however.
Anything with wheels or wings would’ve seemed like science fiction to early civilizations, and the
prospect of simply climbing into something with an engine and being able to travel anywhere in the
world? That would’ve been absolutely unthinkable.
 2: Fast, Far-Flung Communication
It should come as no surprise that technology has vastly improved both the method and speed of
communication all around the world. In the days of quills and scrolls, you sent off a letter and hoped
for the best; in 2014, you can text, tweet, tumble, call, email, fax and “poke” if you have information
that needs attention. What’s more, handheld tech ensures that you can do it all without even leaving
the couch! This kind of convenience and open-access communication has allowed everyone in the
world can connect, correspond and collaborate on a global scale.
 3: Improved Media
Satellite systems revolutionized the way people share information. For the first time, citizens
could see and hear global events for themselves; all you have to do is look at the Kennedy
and Nixon debate to see how that changed the future. The consequences go beyond politics,
however, and also affect science, business, finance, schools, computers and the
environment. No industry has been untouched or unshaped by the media. They may cope
with its presence in different ways, but it has still become a part of how they operate.
 4: Better Goods and Services
It’s an understood psychological truth that people behave better when they know they’re
being watched. In an age where every customer has a mobile phone camera, businesses are
under this scrutiny 24/7, and they’re forced to stay on their toes to keep their doors open and
their lights running. If customers are treated rudely, they can log onto sites like Yelp and leave
negative reviews. down detector . If they find dirty, objectionable conditions, they can take
video and launch a viral exposé within a matter of minutes. Businesses that want to succeed
in the 21st century must keep a constant eye on consumer satisfaction, and in turn, this
means better products, improved services and enriched business-to-customer relations.
To conclude
 Use of these networking platforms is increasingly becoming a common factor
among many employees. It shows that banning your staff from accessing these
platforms may not be an ideal way to control negative effects of social media.
 Typically, they will always find a way of accessing the sites. Therefore an ideal way
would be to come up with social media policies that would provide the employees
with clear guidelines on how to use these platforms responsibly and at the right
time. But the most important thing above all is to ensure that you use social media
to your advantage of your business.
THANK YOU

  • 6. Technology  Technology can be a powerful tool for transforming learning. It can help affirm and advance relationships between educators and students, reinvent our approaches to learning and collaboration, shrink long- standing equity and accessibility gaps, and adapt learning experiences to meet the needs of all learners.  Technology impacts the environment, people and the society as a whole. • 10. Positive impact of technological innovations  1: Effective Transportation Cars have become so ubiquitous in the world that many individuals can’t even imagine life without them. They aren’t the only transportation to have changed the human environment, however. Anything with wheels or wings would’ve seemed like science fiction to early civilizations, and the prospect of simply climbing into something with an engine and being able to travel anywhere in the world? That would’ve been absolutely unthinkable.  2: Fast, Far-Flung Communication It should come as no surprise that technology has vastly improved both the method and speed of communication all around the world. In the days of quills and scrolls, you sent off a letter and hoped for the best; in 2014, you can text, tweet, tumble, call, email, fax and “poke” if you have information that needs attention. What’s more, handheld tech ensures that you can do it all without even leaving the couch! This kind of convenience and open-access communication has allowed everyone in the world can connect, correspond and collaborate on a global scale.
  • 11.  3: Improved Media Satellite systems revolutionized the way people share information. For the first time, citizens could see and hear global events for themselves; all you have to do is look at the Kennedy and Nixon debate to see how that changed the future. The consequences go beyond politics, however, and also affect science, business, finance, schools, computers and the environment. No industry has been untouched or unshaped by the media. They may cope with its presence in different ways, but it has still become a part of how they operate.  4: Better Goods and Services It’s an understood psychological truth that people behave better when they know they’re being watched. In an age where every customer has a mobile phone camera, businesses are under this scrutiny 24/7, and they’re forced to stay on their toes to keep their doors open and their lights running. If customers are treated rudely, they can log onto sites like Yelp and leave negative reviews. down detector . If they find dirty, objectionable conditions, they can take video and launch a viral exposé within a matter of minutes. Businesses that want to succeed in the 21st century must keep a constant eye on consumer satisfaction, and in turn, this means better products, improved services and enriched business-to-customer relations.

It shows that banning your staff from accessing these platforms may not be an ideal way to control negative effects of social media.  Typically, they will always find a way of accessing the sites. Therefore an ideal way would be to come up with social media policies that would provide the employees with clear guidelines on how to use these platforms responsibly and at the right time. But the most important thing above all is to ensure that you use social media to your advantage of your business.
