  2. 2.  A set of genetic disorders characterized by the malfunction ofthe hemoglobin production. People suffering from porphyria have symptoms manifestedby mythological vampires. It is not common but may be present in 1 out of 10,000 However, they are far from what we now see on TV or themovies. George William Frederick III ( King of Great Britain 1760-1820), Mary Stuart (cousin of George III, Queen of Scotland1542-1567), Vincent van Gogh (Dutch post-Impressionistpainter)

CHARACTERISTIC Sensitive to sunlight – painful and having blisters. Have purple-colored urine. Porphyria patients has aversion to garlic - they can experience agonizing pain because of garlic. Fangs – The gum line of those with the diseaseoften recedes, creating the appearance of largerteeth or fangs. Develops more hair over body parts and face.
  4. 4. TREATMENTS A victim of porphyria cannot produce heme, a major and vital component of red blood.Centuries ago, porphyria victims mighthave sought to treat themselves bydrinking blood. Today porphyria can be treated withinjections of blood products, HEME or withhigh carb-diet. 
