I’m Jay Spence. I’m the CEO of Uprise and we help employees self-manage their stress.
Today I’m proud to say that that we have made a difference in more than 500 people’s lives and reduced absenteeism by 50% for one of Australia’s largest companies. As a result we are rolling out internationally with them in July. We are looking to disrupt the $5 billion dollar US employee counselling industry and here’s how we are doing it.
Before Uprise it looked like this: Employees who start to struggle at work typically aren’t even aware of feeling worse. It happens slowly where feeling worse just starts to feel normal. So they decline until it becomes obvious to others. By the time they start seriously looking for support they’re in crisis and the average stress claim will cost the company $250,000. That’s a quarter of a million dollars for something Uprise can prevent. But, feeling worse doesn’t have to be normal because effective treatments for stress were invented over 20 years ago.
Now, technology means we can bring treatments that work to people that need them. We assess and catch employees early. We send 3 minute videos that teach them proven skills to manage their thinking, their stress and their relationships.
Then we link them with a coach that calls them weekly until they are back on track.
We initially built this for people who were struggling but our pilot data shows that everyone can benefit from these skills, which is why we are doing a company-wide rollout in July.
We are the world’s first scalable mental health solution for the workplace. Australian businesses are mandated to look after each employee’s mental health and top business leaders already know that mental health is linked to productivity losses. But before Uprise there were no scalable solutions to this. Uprise costs $250 per employee and we have a plan to lower this cost even further by using artificial intelligence to deliver parts of the support process.
The biggest thing happening in psychology isn’t new treatments anymore. It’s the use of technology to bring treatments that work to millions of people at once. We are on a mission to digitalise mental health support for the workplace. We are Uprise and we help employees to self-manage their stress.
